Question about Nikon Coolpix L11 Digital Camera

1 Answer

How do I upload videos from my Nikon Coolpix L11 to my computer? I put the memory card in my printer and uploaded, but the videos only show up (thumbnail) as a "play" type button with red, blue, green, yellow around them. They will not play though. Please help.

Is your printer capable of playing videos? It certainly won't print them.

If you want to use your videos, transfer them to a computer, not a printer. There, you can isolate individual frames and print them, though you'll need to keep in mind that your camera's video resolution is much lower than for stills.

No, actually the printer has a slot for memory cards that uploads to the computer.

  • kakima May 17, 2010

Okay. Once the videos are transferred to the computer, what software are you using to try to play them?

  • kujevich May 17, 2010

That is part of the problem. I am not really sure how to access them. I see them after uploading as icons with my pictures(the play button icon I listed earlier). I'm not sure what to do next.

What program is showing you the icons? In Nikon ViewNX, simply double-clicking the icon will play the video. In Windows Explorer, double-clicking the icon should bring up Windows Media Player, unless you've changed the default file association.

That would be great! Where is the Nikon ViewNX?

PicturePerfect was retired years ago, replaced by Nikon Transfer and Nikon ViewNX. You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from
http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13948

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

How can i use the coolpix L11 as a web cam?

You can't. The L11 is designed as a camera, storing pictures and videos onto a memory card (or internal memory). It is not designed to feed live pictures and videos to a computer.

Uploading pictures back onto my camera

Hey hapurves,
Uploading your images should not remove the images from your memory card. If your images are no longer on your memory card the card has most likely been formatted. You could try connecting the memory card to your laptop with a card reader and under My Computer right click on the icon for your memory card and select open. Now you could try copying the images you want back on the memory card and pasting them into a folder on the memory card. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Transfering to pc from nikon l11

The thing to do here [and in general with every other camera as far as I am concerned] is to remove the supplied software. Put the disc back in the box and leave it there. Simply plug the camera in switch it on set it the the upload mode And Windows - bless it - will do the rest. Camera/Scanner wizard will come up and ask you what to do Just like that. Let Windows do the work.
