They're called icons and they've been standaridzed since cassette decks were state of the art. It makes manufacturing easier if they don't have to dela with different languages.

Hey! I have a problem with my sony MDR-RF81 headphones....when the bass is to loud...there volume is droping...when I listen to skirllex for example...the volume is high or low...but when the bass...

Hey there, the problem with your sony is not a hardware problem, the headphones are completely fine, its the amount of bass you are putting into the headphones, there are two solutions to this, if you're using a mobile device (Apple, android etc...), go to your app store and download an equaliser e.g poweramp, with this, you can adjust the sound going through to your headphones using the built in equalizer (usually 5-10 bands, research this if you have no knowledge of equalisers), you can use this to turn down the bass frequencies in the sound, or the only other thinkable options are if you are already have an equaliser in use, turn it down, because putting all of the bars to the top makes the sound horrible, research on some suggestions for equaliser presets (another word for equalizer settings), or just turn the volume down.

the reason this happens is because bass naturally overpowers treble, and if it is too loud, the treble and mids will be significantly quieter, headphones are a menace for this, so all you have to do is tweak the sound a little (using an equaliser) to find that perfect balance between the different elements of sound.:-) :-)

Hope this helped mate :-) :-)

I need assistance understanding this algebra equation and the steps to solve it. 7+(9-5x)=5(2-x)

this is a simple algebraic equation in which we have to calculate the value of 'x' using simple operations

7+(9-5x)=5(2-x)

step 1(pen the brackets) 7+9-5x=10-5x
step 2(add 7 and 9) 16-5x=10-5x

now as 5x gets cancelled both the sides of the equal sign therefore no solution of this algebraic equation exist.

How do I get the device to play? The device options are: menu(on top near display screen), right & left arrows, play/pause on the bottom, and there is no volume indicator.

Try to check the sideways if there's any volume button.
If there isn't, go to menu and go to settings.
There should be a volume option there.

Volume display seems backward

This is because the volume knob on ANY stereo is actually an attenuator.  Meaning, the stereo would play at full blast (way too loud!) if left to it's own limits of power, so your volume knob is actually "dialing down" the power, or when fully turned up, letting it all flow.
The reason that the numbers change like that is it's showing you how much attenuation is happening in decibels, or dB, so for insTance, when it's at "-30" that's a pretty decent volume, but at "-5" it's much louder and your neighbors might complain.  I think you'll notice that it can be cranked to something like "+5" which on my AVR 100 will blow the speakers.
In other words, this is normal, so relax and enjoy the music!

Volume dropped after "go back"

I noticed the same thing with mine and I seem to have fixed that problem (accidentally). I decided I wanted to clean the unit up, so I did the following:
  1. First I RESET the unit using a pin in the little hole on the back (marked RESET).
  2. Next I chose the FORMAT option in the SETTINGS menu and cleared the memory (ALL songs and settings).
After reloading my music, I noticed the volume drop NO LONGER OCCURS. The unit also seems to POWER UP a little quicker too, but I can't say for certain.

I'm hoping my little RESET/FORMAT will fix a few other little quirks in the unit (like SHUFFLE playing the same track over and over out of 400+ songs!)

Unable to turn PROTECTION ON, off!

Annie, your tuner, is it a receiver that incorporates the main audio amplifier as well? and your equalizer is an additional gadget only? are you sure you got it wired correctly?

If you're connection is the usual since you have moved places, something must be wrong in your amplifier output stage or your speakers too, or since this happened only when you changed place maybe you wrongly interchanged the plus/minus cables. Your amp wil activate protection at 50% vol. That displayed protection on means overcurrent in the amplifier output stage, either you have a bad speaker or overdriven input stage, the output then consequently overdrives as well. check first your speaker polarity. Also try to reduce the equalizer output level to 75% maybe. then try it again if it still does the same, we'll try something else. not a big thing to rewqire your eqaulizer to your receiver. even without the manual
