Presario CQ42-305 will not connect to wifi after reformat.

To connect your computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh network list, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connect to your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Key before allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This Network Key is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is configured in the Wireless settings in the Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way to setup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrase or WPA or WPA2 key that was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router. http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_address For information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in the laptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Wireless Troubleshooting - What to Do For Limited Or No Connectivity on an XP...

<p>Networking allows computers to interact, or share data, between themselves. Although they became easy to use over the years, issues such as "Limited or No connectivity" on Windows machines especially still occur. It prevents the computer, laptop, or any other device running Microsoft windows system from any network connection.<br /> This would be very frustrating for a user who fails to solve the connectivity issue after several attempts. The "Limited or no connectivity" message tells the user that a problem has occur and needs troubleshooting. Below are some causes that may need looking at.<br /> <b>Physical causes and What to Do... </b><br /> <ul> <li>Network card could be faulty or malfunctioning, or the port on the card itself. Make sure lights show on the card and if they don't, replace with another one that works. <li>Check that your router or the server is turned on so that the laptop can acquire a valid IP address. <li>Double check to make sure the wireless card on the laptop is turned on. Do not assume it is on by default, do it yourself. </li></ul> <br /><b>Logical or Software causes and solutions </b><br /> <ul> <li>Many of us are online buyers. Items sold on the internet, especially used items, are not in their default settings. Previous owners do not always reset them before sale, and this causes a lot of issues and unwanted beheaviours. Below are some of the common settings found on Routers: <ul> <li>ISP user name and password. If you want to connect to the internet check with your ISP to get your own User name and password, if not ignore this step. <li>Looking at the security options, make sure: <ul> <li>MAC address Filtering is not enable. If it is, remove all the MAC addresses on the MAC address table, and enter your Laptop's network card MAC address. With MAC Filtering On, do not forget to enter the MAC addresses of all you wireless devices on to its table. <li>Wireless key settings. Disable the wireless key settings and configure it to meet your requirements. </li></ul></li></ul><br /> <li><b>A Laptop to Laptop connection</b>, please make sure the wireless settings on both laptops are the same. <br /> <li><b>Inconsistent wireless Keys</b>. The key on the laptop has to match the one configured on the router. <br /> <li><b>Drivers out of date</b>, update your wireless adapter drivers or your router firmware by checking the manufacturer web site. <br /> <li><b>Wireless not enable on the router</b>. If wireless is not enable on the router, there is no Wi-Fi signal at all. some Router would have wireless turned off by default, and it is the administrator decision to use it or not. <br /> <li><b>DHCP Server misconfiguration</b>. Make sure the DHCP (Dynamic Hosts Configuration) server is properly configured: <br /> <ul> <li>Enough IP address lease for your network devices <li>The server itself is not down </li></ul></li></ul> <b>Some simple troubleshooting methods are:</b><br /> <ul> <li>Repair the connection. On Windows, click <b><i>start</i></b> - <b><i>Control panel</i></b> and then <i>Network connections;</i> chose the right connection icon, right then select <b><i>repair</i></b>. Windows will, temporarily, disable and re-enable your network adapter to attempt a connection. <li>Reset the IP stack. Click <b><i>start</i></b> then <b><i>Run</i></b>. At the command prompt type "<b><i>command</i></b>" or cmd for short, you are then presented with the command prompt window. Type "<b>netsh int ip reset resetlog</b>", and then restart your Laptop. This applies to desktop computers as well. <li>Reset the router to its factory default. Most routers we use at home are fitted with a reset button, by pressing and hold it for few seconds will bring the router to its factory default. This method solves a lot of the issues mentioned earlier, in one go.</li></ul> <br /> <p> <br /> <p>

Why i cannot install a wi fi driver for my hp g7-2118nr with a windows 7 ultimate operating system

Turn on your computer and locate the Wi-Fi icon. This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look ((())) Make sure its pressed on. Usually a wifi enabled phone, computer, or whatever device, will recognize if there is wifi access near you. Most new HP (Hewlett-Packard) Pavilion notebook computers as of August 2010 include an internal wireless networking adapter, used to connect to a wireless network or router. Once connected to a router, the computer can connect to the Internet or other computers on the same network. If the wireless networking adapter is not allowing the computer to connect to a router, there are several steps that can be used to remedy the problem. Ensure that the wireless network adapter is turned on. Most HP Pavilion notebook computers have a switch that allows you to turn off the wireless adapter. The switch typically is located on the side of the computer or on the front. Ensure that the router and modem are plugged in and functioning. Ensure that the lights are illuminated on each device. Attempt to connect wirelessly using another computer, if possible, to test whether the connection problem is with the router or modem. Unplug the router and modem. Leave the power off for approximately 30 to 60 seconds, then turn them on again. Update the wireless network adapter driver using the computer's "Device Manager." To access the Device Manager, right-click on "Computer" or "My Computer," depending on the version of Windows, and click "Device Manager" from the left-side bar, or from the tab labeled "Hardware." Once in the Device Manager, expand the section labeled "Networking Devices" and right-click on the wireless network adapter. Click "Update driver software" to begin searching for an update. If an update is found, follow the onscreen instructions to install the update. Reinstall the wireless networking adapter if updating the driver does not remedy the problem. To reinstall the wireless adapter driver, right-click on it from the Device Manager and select "Uninstall." Once the device is removed from the computer, restart the computer. Once Windows loads, it will automatically detect and reinstall the driver. Run the Windows 7 Diagnostic Tool (if the computer uses the Windows 7 operating system) to diagnose any networking issues the operating system may be able to correct. To access the Windows 7 Diagnostic Tool, open the "Start" menu and type "Network" into the search field. Click "Network and Sharing Center" and then select "Diagnose and repair" from the left-side bar. The Windows 7 Diagnostic Tool will automatically run and will attempt to repair and establish the wireless connection. Attempt to manually connect to the wireless network. Open the "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Setup a new connection or network." Enter the network name, security type and network key into the text boxes and click "Next." If successful, click "Use the existing network" and then click "Connect." The network name, security type and network key can be obtained from the network administrator or by logging into the router. For help logging into the router, consult the instructions included with the router. Make sure you Ethernet/internet is enabled in bios restart your computer during the boot up process you will see on your screen a certain key to press to enter set up (BIOS) press and hold that key to enter bios using arrow keys navigate to integrated peripherals look for SiS On Chip Pci Device press enter scroll to SiS 10/100m press enter make sure its "Enabled"imake sure key scroll Hope this helps.

It could be the router which is giving you issue. Press and hold the reset button for 30 second and this makes the configuration to go back to its previous settings. The reconfigure the router with a new SSID and security key. Try connecting to the wireless network, the computers will consider it as a new network and will connect without any issues

Upgraded to windows 7 and i am unable to connect to the internet. I get a limited or no connectivity

I'm thinking modem/router combination. first power down modem and router. Then leaving router unplugged, power up modem, make sure it's sync up then power up router. If this is a wireless connection search for your networks name on computer/laptop..ie View wireless connection. Windows allows a automatic setup if the wireless connection is unsecured. If it is secured Windows 7 will prompt a pass phrase/ or access code. Good luck. Repeat process if necessary

We have windows 7 ultimate on a hp pavilion du 7 laptop, coupled to a linksys wr310n router. It was working fine until our c drive crashed & had to replace , now we can't get the router to work , driver...

For the WRT310n, back to the User Guide (download from Linksys), perform a reset and start over following setup instructions (make sure the router is hardwired to the laptop). Set up a new home network on the laptop using Control Panel. Make sure the adapter settings are correct and good to go. Then see if you can connect to the router with your browser to set it up. After setup, you should be able to connect to the router wirelessly from the laptop, but you have to make sure the wireless transmitter inside the laptop is turned on first (see the laptop user manual).

Netgear Router WGR614 will not connect to internet

Hi,
Looks like when you reset the router you have lost all yur configuration and back to the default factory settings.

Bridge the 5100 first.
1. In your web browser browse to »192.168.0.1 This address will be located on a yellow sticker on the bottom of your modem.

2. The first screen will ask you for your Modem Access Code. This also will be located on the same yellow sticker.

3. Select Advanced from the blue buttons on the left.

4. Click the PPP locations button.

5. The modem may ask your for the Modem Access Code again. If so type it in again and click continue.

6. Select the radio button labeled, "Bridged Mode (PPPoE is not used)"

7. Click Save Changes.

8. A "PPP Location Warning" page will come up. Click "Change PPP Location."

9. A "Restart Needed" page will come up. Click "Restart"

10. Reboot your computer and and then connect the router

11.Configure the router for PPPoE using your ISP uid/pass

12.Configure your wireless using WEP

13.Desktop : Using Dell wireless client configure the client using the same SSID ,wep as configured in the router
Laptop : follow the same as desktop

(by default dell wirelesss client takes over the wireless configuration in dell pc.to disable it and use windows wireless client..control panel ->administrative tools -> services -> enabl2 wireless zero configuration)

14.after all configuration shut the desktop, laptop, router, mdm and pwr them in seg..first modem and then router and then your desktop or laptop

Cheers !!!
