Hi,
Only two components can make that kind of sound in this tv, exhaust fan or color wheel and visual check will confirm noisy exhaust fan but color wheel is part of light engine so qualified tech would be fine to handle that issue as novice will make problem more complicated.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Take off back of tv and confirm that exhaust fan is producing noise.

Sounds like one of your capacitors or power inverter may be soon to go. Testing capacitors can be done with an ohmmeter or analog meter. Testing the power supply aka power inverter can be done with a voltmeter. There should be a label on the tv that states the DC Voltage Output. Make sure the reading of the voltmeter are the same or close to the same.

okay....so? First I have to get the tools -- an ohmmeter to test the capacitor and then a voltmeter to test the power inverter -- and then see if the volts from my power inverter match the posted DC Voltage Output? Let's assume I'm able to do all that, but the voltage doesn't match? then what?

If voltage doesn't match, then the power inverter will need to be replaced.

That is my theory. If you feel like getting an analog meter / ohmmeter and voltmeter, you can use them for many things. Very useful life-long tools.

Humming noise

Hello,

The light enigine shouldn't be that difficult to replace if you have a decent amount of time and are moderately mechanically inclined. You can order the original Toshiba replacement light engine for this model (62HM95) from a major Toshiba parts distributor at the link below:

I believe it is the color wheel. The motor might be going bad or it has dirt or dust in it.
