By "plug in the router," it means you should plug the router into AC power, wait 30 seconds or so, then connect a standard ethernet cable between your PC's ethernet port and one of the LAN ports on the router (NOT the WAN port, which should be connected only to your outgoing network connection). If, after all this, the router still cannot be found, try resetting the router according to the instructions in the manual (usually involves pushing and/or holding down a tiny button on the rear). If after that procedure your PC still cannot see the router, it's possible the PC's ethernet port is bad, or the driver for it is bad. If you can connect your PC directly to the outgoing network connection and have it work, that will eliminate those possibilities. Finally, it's also possible the router is faulty, which you can determine by trying to configure it using a different PC.

Hi, you should run the wireless network wizard on windows in the network option when you click on start on your screen. I am also going to provide you with Microsoft's Official guide to this as well, so you have it for any reference during the setup. Router setup guide win7
1) try pressing the reset button at the back of the router where the cables are located. this is a small pinhole that you can press with a pin or a tip of pen. hold the reset button for 5 seconds then release it.
2) if your using WINDOWS XP: click on start - then click on RUN on the RUN COMMAND screen type the word command on the space provided then click on OK on the black screen type in IPCONFIG/ALL then press ENTER on your keyboard. then look for the default gateway on the info provided on your screen make sure you write it down on a piece of paper.
if your using WINDOWS VISTA or WINDOWS 7: just click on the windows logo then type the word COMMAND on the start search field. then a black screen will appear on your monitor then type in IPCONFIG/ALL then press enter on your keyboard then look for the default gateway.
3) if your able to get the default gateway type it in the address bar of your internet explorer and you will be able to access your router's main screen.
good luck. :)
just feel free to ask a question and we will be glad to give you some tips.
Router setup If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then: Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem. Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPPOe.
Using your web browser go to URL address http://192.168.1.1. You will then be prompted to login to your router. A log-in screen asking for the password will automatically appear. At this time enter the default password “admin”, in lower case letters into the password field. The username field may be left blank at this time. (Note: both the default username and default password are set to “admin” on some of the newer Linksys router models).
in connecting wirelessly to the router, we need to make sure the encryption on the router.
Access the router setup screen, check the IP address first of the computer.
Open IE type there 192.168.1.1 username is blank and password is admin.
once it is on the setup screen checked the wireless tab and look for wireless security, verify it and try to connect again.
in your wireless computer, right click wireless connection and go to view available wireless network, try to connect - input the network key if in case it is not asking you for it, click the changed the order of the preferred networks and then removed all the preferred networks there, then try to connect again and you will now be asked for a network try to connect and you should be connected then.
Hi - dlund - is this a new router? If so, did you use the disk and follow the instructions? ( sorry, I have to ask?) Assuming everything is connected correctly, what's your machine make and model#? If it's a laptop is it a card you plugged in or did it come installed? Try this: Unplug your modem and router. After about 60 seconds plug in your modem. When all the lights come on(except the activity light) ,plug in your router. Give it ten seconds and try it. Also, is your router protected by a WPA or WEP key? Try these things, answer these questions, let me know. Thanks.
