Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer
Posted by Anonymous on
The FL error code means:
FL flashes if any overfill condition occurs. This condition occurs when excessive water in the tub causes the overfill switch to trip. The control must realize that the trip was due to an overfill condition instead of a suds lack condition in order for FL to be displayed
With an overfill condition, the beeper repeats a warning every 10 seconds with no time-out. The pump is cycled in drain mode for 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off until the overfill switch resets or power is discontinued to the unit.
Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.
This problem I see on these are the water pumps getting clogged with lint or other things, causing the pump not to pump all of the water out at times.
There is a check "valve" in the drain assembly that seems to sometimes cause problems with the FL error code. You can remove this piece, and might avoid changing the pump.

SOURCE: Error Code FL
I've had this issue three times. On the first case, I found my external drain hose ( the hose from your washing machine to the drain in your wall) was clogged with a penny. The original external drain hose has a valve that keeps water from coming back into the washing machine. The penny had lodged in the vlave. On the second occassion, a piece of a hankerchief was caught in the drain pump. This pump has a "propeller" that pulls the water out of the washing machine and pushes it out to the external drain hose. I took it off the drain pump motor and tried to clean it. The original pump is solid and you can't take it apart to clean it. I did the best I could, then put it back on. It made a loud noise when draining. Whirlpool no longer sales just the drain pump, you have to buy a complete new pump and motor combo. It costs about $70 on e-bay (new). It is fairly easy to install (30 min). The good thing about the new pump is that you can take the cover of the pump off without taking the pump motor off. The third time I took the pumpef cover off and found a penny lodged in the pump. After taking it out, the machine ran well.
Note 1: A good way to drain your washing machine is to take a hose pipe and put it in the top of the machine and then use a manual air mattress pump (in reverse mode) on the opposite end of the hose that you put outside. After several pumps on the air mattress pump sucking the water through the hose, you will create a suction that will keep flowing until much of the water is out of your tub. Be ready with several containers to catch the rest of the water when you take the hoses off the pump.
Note 2: Check pockets well to keep things from getting into the drain system. Use a delicate wash bag (a mesh bag) to wash undergarmets, hose, hankerchiefs, and other thin items that might get sucked into the drain system.

SOURCE: Maytag Neptune washer error FL
There is a manual door release tab in the dispenser area. You have to take the screws out and remove the dispenser to pull the tab and release the door. This is a pretty common issue, if you haven't yet you should contact your Maytag authorized dealer and ask about a more permanent solution. Hope you can get your clothes out.

SOURCE: Washer displays FL code
I GOT THIS OFF THE MANUAL, HOPE THIS HELPS.
"FL' (Over Fill) flashes
The washer will beep every 10 seconds with no time-out. The
pump will cycle one half minute on, one half minute off, until
the over fill switch is reset or power is discontinued to the
unit. Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display. Shut off the
water faucets to the inlet hoses if water continues to flow.

SOURCE: Not draining water, not spinning
I THINK, (Not sure, but fairly convinced) that the error FL is a warning that your FiLter is blocked. When this happens, the pump can't drain the water in the alloted time that the machine has set to do it, so at the end of the pump out, there is still water left. Bacause of this, it won't allow the spin cycle to engage. You need to find your filter and clean it out. If this fixes the problem, make a regular habit of checking and cleaning the filter every month or so (Depending on how much washing you do... You will figure out a good time scale after you have done a few checks and decided how fast the lingt and rubbish builds up in the filter).
