Re-install old database in restaurant pro express

Hard drive crashed, new one up and running with no instructions on how to input my old menu (database) into the fresh reformat

    The software stopped working & does not let me in my old database. What steps are involved in re installing the database back up? It does not find my back up file when I click on the "use my existing database" option. Do I need to re install the software?

    I have the same problem. I have a backup of the database that I want to use to "restore" to the new server which had to be replaced. What are the steps involved in actually restoring the database and enabling communication between the server and client machine(s). It seems like nobody has a specific answer to the actual steps involved in this process, other than mentioning that you need a .bak file to do it. I have the .bak file-can anyone guide me (an hundreds of others) as to how we may do this? Please!

Have you backup the system regullary? it does not do automatically. you nust have one back up file in order to restore you system

Not sure why it would disappear, but you could try to recreate it using a different button if you haven't used all sixteen. Maybe a new location will work better. There are a few things that could be checked in your database, but try this first.

How to delete restaurant pro and start over

Backup database first.
Log your license key by trying to register. It should display.
Uninstall RPE from Programs in Control Panel. Then search for the folder and rename it Then reload RPE.
After install, it will ask you to re-register. It will also ask you if you want to keep existing database. If you are starting from scratch, choose over write with a new one. Otherwise, keep existing db. This will preserve your inventory and menu setup.

Hi Lindsay,
All you need from the old server is the database or a recent backup of database. You place it in the proper SQL folder or if it is a backup, restore it. Then reconfigure the workstation to look at this database instead of the server. Not to big of a deal if you know SQL and RPE configuration.

if you backed up your database from CRE, you should be able to simply "restore" it to any newer version, it should take care of the conversion automatically

Do you know how to clear the data base in Restaurant Pro Express

On the startup screen, before you login, click on FILE in upper left corner. Select DATABASE MAINTENANCE, then click CLEAR DATABASE. You will then be given several choices as to what you wish to clear from the database.
This only clears certain data from database, it does not clear everything. For more info, contact me.

If you clear database does this clear the entire menu prgramming? or just the inventory / sales records?

It depends on the version you are running. Always backup your database before doing this. When you clear database, another screen appears with options. You can then choose between several things including just sales/invoices or A/R transactions.

Your getting a connection successful because your looking at the localhost. The server would be the network name of your server. And the password is case sensitive and is pcAmer1ca. (Note the number 1, not an i)

brewkeeper, there are so many possibilities on this subject that I couldn't even begin to cover them. The backup file should end in '.bak' and be located in the '' folder under Program files on your C drive if you did a typical installation. If the backup completed successfully, you should have received a completed popup. If you locate the backup file, the restore process will ask you what you want to call the restored database. If you are positive you want to do this, call it 'cresql'. This is the standard RPE database name. If you are not positive, call it something else. You may not use numbers. Try using 'restoreone'. You should get a message that database was restored. This does not, repeat does not make it the active database. You must then switch to the new database name you created. This will allow you to switch back and forth between databases. If you called the restored DB 'cresql', then it would be active and overwrite the current database. Any changed since the backup would be lost.

Want to buy restaurant express pro is it any good

For the price, it is a good product. It uses an SQL database and can be customized in many ways. As with any good restaurant POS, the main concern is getting the menu programmed into the software so that invoicing flows smoothly. Once programmed, it is easy to show employees how to operate.

Unless you are going to spend a lot of time learning the software, I would recommend letting someone program menu for you. Then you just learn how to modify or change it. (add items or price change)
