Sharp vc-A410U vcr

Tape plays for a period of time then stops. Depress play on remote and will play for a while then stopsit . Each time you depress play button it will start playing until it decides to stop. The play time is not the same. It varies but the longest time of play is usually the first time play button is depressed.

If the belt does not solve problem it could be the idler tyre is worn and/or clutch, this quite often happens when tape has been playing for a while and most of tape is on right hand side, causing greater drag on take up spool.

I can't figure out how to disable the closed captioning on some (seemingly random, usually newer) tapes that I play on my Sharp VC-A410U.

VCRs are not digital equipment - when you play a tape you dont have any choices as to what you see.

It is likely a defective rubber product, ie belt or idler tire. Here are some links to a company that still carries VCR parts and supplies. Hope this helps.

How do I record a tv program with a Sharp A400 VCR? Videos will play on the tv, but I was not able to get it to record. Thanks.

Your VCR is no longer capable of recording "off air" tv signals. All tv stations are now broadcasting in digital format, your VCR is analog only. You can however get a digital converter box that will receive "off air" digital signals and convert them for recording on your VCR. CLICKING HERE will give you all the information you need to hook up the converter box... Good Luck!

Loads then unloads the tape

could be a sensor problem. look at bottom side of videotape. in the center towards the top is a round hole, above a screw. then insode the vcr (take top cover off) theres a prism or led sticking up that goes into that hole in the tape, when the tape is loaded. try wrapping masking or electrical tape around it (only a temporary fix)
