OK then. I assume the problem was solved by the procedure described in the last comment box - re-install USB disk drivers.

Sounds like the drive has croaked. You can get the data but expect to spend upwards of $1000 or more to a data recovery company.

I have an Acer one Kav10, I need a hard drive for it. Which brand is compatible with this computer.

Basically, any brand will work so long as it's a SATA 2.5 inch HDD. The standard drives shipping are around 160GB which is a common size.

5400 rpm is the basic standard; you can also get 7200 rpm drives which are a bit faster, but also more expensive. Most folks can't tell the difference.

You realize, of course, that you will have to reinstall the operating system from some sort of external CD/DVD drive, or possibly a USB flash drive that is large enough.

My personal preferences for hard drives are Western Digital and Fujitsu...I have to repair fewer of those overall than other brands.

Hope that's helpful.

What is the max hdd capacity I can install in a HP ZD8000 laptop?

Your computer uses ATA drives which topped out around 250MB simply because manufactures switched over to SATA drives. It is a pain to change out disks on laptops since you can only have one internal drive. You then have to reload everything.
Here is one I found: Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVE 250GB 5400 RPM 2.5" ATA-6 Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
  • 250GB
  • 5400 RPM 8MB Cache
  • ATA-6

I'd consider one of the external USB disks instead to store your data, pictures, etc. You could then put it on your desktop or on a new notebook.

I have an old La Cie 160gb (maybe 5 years old?) - do you know the specs? rpm, for instance? I need something with 7200. This old one must be 5400, right?

Lacie drives have a 5400 RPM on there 160GB line nothing really changed until 500 GB to 1tB at 7200 RPM.

so the answer is 5400 RPM

Hope this helps please do rate and leave feedback.

Need new laptop harddrive

Go to either bestbuy.com or compusa.com and look for the hard drive there. The hard drive will be cheaper going thru either of those places. Also check out pricewatch.com cause you can compare prices there. Also go thru google and check out the shopping results of the hard drive your looking for as well.

Lots of places to check and the hard drive will definitely be cheaper then going thru HP.

System can detect Fujitsu MHY2160BH : 160GB HDD, but cant install

it seems that your computer might have a SATA hard drive which could not be detectable by windows xp, try to install vista it will detect it easily.

otherwise use dm (disk manager) for detection and partition.
