What is the max hdd capacity I can install in a HP ZD8000 laptop?

Your computer uses ATA drives which topped out around 250MB simply because manufactures switched over to SATA drives. It is a pain to change out disks on laptops since you can only have one internal drive. You then have to reload everything.
Here is one I found: Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVE 250GB 5400 RPM 2.5" ATA-6 Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
  • 250GB
  • 5400 RPM 8MB Cache
  • ATA-6

I'd consider one of the external USB disks instead to store your data, pictures, etc. You could then put it on your desktop or on a new notebook.

My Dell Lap Top needs a hard drive installed

any 2.5" ATA-6 (a.k.a. Ultra ATA) will work

Your laptop came with a:
Ultra ATA Hard Drive, 4200RPM hard drive

I suggest this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136129

But, Any 2.5" ATA-6...also known as ultra ATA, will suffice..........go with 5400 RPM speed drive.......I suggest either Western Digital or Seagate...as they are the most dependable brands of hard disc drives.

And to replace it, here is an online service manual to guide you:

There ya go!

Gateway notebook model MX8711 is freezing up - i get SMART msg that hard drive is bad and needs to be replaced asap - what hard is installed in this model?

Your laptop comes with a 100 gb SATA interface HDD running 5400 rpm. Any SATA interface hard drive will do. Pay a little more and get the speed up to 7200 rpm and you can use any capacity you can afford.

Replacement drive needed. Current drive overheated and crashed the computer. Want to find a compatible replacement for this particular model and can't find any information online to what type the computer...

you can get a TOSHIBA MK1652GSX(HDD2H03) 160GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive for $49 at newegg.com and it is compatable for your laptop. Here is the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149073

This drive is bigger and better than the one it came with.

Need new laptop harddrive

Go to either bestbuy.com or compusa.com and look for the hard drive there. The hard drive will be cheaper going thru either of those places. Also check out pricewatch.com cause you can compare prices there. Also go thru google and check out the shopping results of the hard drive your looking for as well.

Lots of places to check and the hard drive will definitely be cheaper then going thru HP.

Can samsung q20 upgrade to 160gb hdd

As long as you buy a notebook hdd [2.5 inch] with the right connection for your computer. ide. sata, sata II, depending on what your computer specs support, size doesn't matter in regards to storage space. Hope this helps.

I need to upgrade my laptop hd

This laptop uses a SATA hard drive. From what I see the max on those is 500gb. If I was to make a recommendation, Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BEVT 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA Notebook Hard Drive $107.

Upgraded hard drive, from 80gb to 250gb. I have had to reload my os twice. it appears that the bios is not recognizing my hd. a friend said that the inspiron 6000 does not do well with a hd bigger then...

I dont think we can use a hard disk of 160gb in an inspiron 6000. and make sure you bought a ATA hard drive and not a SATA drive. For the Western digital try to reinstall XP and install the device drivers before installing application s/w.

Hard drive

You will need any 2.5" inch hard drive. The size that you choose is your option.

However, I do recommend at least 60-80 gigabytes minimum for any operating system these days.

You will want to be sure that you are not buying a SERIAL ATA drive as this particular model still uses the standard IDE interface hard drives.

Also note that there are different speeds of hard drives. For laptops, the usual speeds are 4200 RPM and 5400 RPM. In order to gain the best performance, you will want to find a hard drive with the 5400 RPM speed.

I have taken the liberty of looking up a couple good hard drives on newegg.com. (The best site for buying PC parts...as well as many other things.)

The following link is what I consider to be a pretty good deal. Good size at 160GB and is 5400 RPM.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148224

The next link is more for economy if you don't want to spend that much money. It is an 80GB drive with the better 5400 RPM speed for performance. This is the lowest I would go whether your a hardcore user or even a casual user. Great price for this drive. :)

If you have any further questions, please come back and ask them. I would rather continue helping you to find a solution than to receive a lower rating.

I'll be watching. :)
