I recently bought the following components to build a new computer:
Case: Antec P182 Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L PSU: Corsair 520HX CPU: Intel E6850 GPU: EVGA 8800GTS 512MB (G92) Hard Drive: WD Raptor X 150GB Ram: Corsair 4GB PC2-6400 C4 OS: Windows Vista Premium OEM 66I-00715
Iassembled everything and upon power up, I encountered an earblasting continuous beep. After inspecting the card ,I realized I hadn't connectedpower to the video card (doh!)
With power to the video card, the screeching beep wentaway and all the fans run (the 3 internal case fans, the CPU fan andthe graphics card fan), the DVD drive works and I can hear the harddrive spinning, BUT... no startup "beep" and no post/bios. I triedreseating the RAM in different combinations as well as reseating the video card but still nothing.
I hired a specialist to diagnose my computer but he's had it for a week and I suspect he doesn't know how to fix it. He originally said the motherboard was shorted and after replacing it, he now says that the short has caused irreparable damage to other components (which doesn't sound right).
I want a second opinion so I was hoping to get a recommendation from y'all on a reputable computer repair store around Palo Alto/Peninsula Bay Area.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.
have you tried different memory as no matter what the board says they don't like some memory . also take the board out of the case and connect pwr supply. cpu and fan ,video card , and 1 memory stick
no cables ,keyboard ,mouse or drives connected. this is called bread boarding. reset the bios jumper, then put jumper back. and power up.

While using my Media Center PC sometimes I get loud beeps from the MB. It seems to happen when a lot of memory is being accessed ( watching and recording a TV show at the same time ) or when the harddrive is being used intensively ( for the same reason ). How can I check whether this is a memory problem, a harddrive problem, or something else ?
