TRY INSTALLING A SURGE PROTECTOR.

IF IT CONTINUES AFTER THAT YOU MAY HAVE A BAD CIRCUIT BOARD

Craftsman 1/2 hp garage opener opens and closes, but when it is finished closing the opener buzzes. When I put the door up the buzzing stops. The light has not worked for several years. I replaced

For the lights, very common the contacts get flattened out and melted. I see this every day. Unplug the opener and let it sit for about 30 min. I never wait but just to be safe, let the capacitor loose its charge. With a precision flathead screwdriver or fingernail, bend the contacts in the light socket out about 1/8". Should help. Buzzing concerns me a little. May be an electrical issue. These openers use an AC brushed motor. They get very hot and in rare cases can catch fire. Theres gear grease and dust inside that has ignited in a few motors. There is an overheat switch built in but dont count on it. I would suggest buying a new machine. Find a DC motor with a belt drive. They last the longest and require the least maintenance. Marantec make the best in my opinion.

Unplug the opener and remove the bulb. Use a small screwdriver and pull out on the center contact of the light socket. Replace the bulb and plug the opener in.

My garage door remote will work for a day or two then it quits and then I have to reprogram it, and it works another few times and stops

If you only have one remote it could be it or the receiver that is quitting. No way to tell without another remote to test it.

Something in your remote is using power all the time. You need to replace it.

Garage door opener won't work unless right on top of garage

The receiver is most likely going bad. It is part of the logic board. The other possibility is if you added anything electric to the garage. Some of the strangest things will interfere with the opener. If you added anything unplug it and try. Otherwise it is the receiver.

Garage door close but motor keeps running

The close setting limit switch needs adjusted. Once it is adjusted it should work just fine.

Remotes don't work

I recently had Verizon FIOS equipment installed in my garage (for phone, internet and TV), which is plugged into a 110 volt electrical outlet. Thinking this equipment might be causing some RF interference, I unplugged the FIOS equipment, and both garage door openers immediately worked perfectly again!
After reconnecting the FIOS equipment, I then plugged the garage door opener into a different electrical outlet approximately 15 ft. away via an extension cord, and the openers continue to work fine. Fingers crossed, I hope the issue is permanently resolved.
