Try replacing the batteries with brand name, photo quality AA's (energizer E2 lithium would be my first choice). 1st gen night vision devices (which is what the NS-156 is) are very sensitive to voltage, and cheap batteries just don't have the "oomph" to power up the intensifier tube. I've bought quite a few "broken" 1st gen devices for between $20-$50, "fixed" them with good batteries, sold them and usually at least quadruple my $$ off the deal. No guarantee, but it's a great place to start. Good luck!

I have a Honeywell thermostat. The thermostat clicks to turn the air condition on but the outdoor unit does not turn on. The fan clicks on though.

I assume you are referring to the indoor fan coming on. If the fan on the outdoor unit is coming on, and the compressor is not, you have a control problem with the outdoor unit, I recommend calling a service man. Make sure you have power to the outdoor unit. There should be a service disconnect on the outdoor unit, connect and disconnect the power, you should hear a hum when the power comes on, put your ear to the housing of the outdoor unit and you will hear the power come on when it is turned on. If no power, or hum, check your breakers in the house electrical panel, see if any are tripped. Next step call a service tech.

Marantz PM7200 in classA mode make a hum ( not through speakers)

So something is making a hum inside the unit? Well the answer is to listen to what is making the hum, with your ear (a drinking straw held to your ear will help locate where it's coming from). Once you have found the part "huming" replace it. See if that cures it.

No sound

Hello sir, hi, missing sound can be costly to repair or needs service by the manufacturer if the problem is the main circuit board. to test, i need you to do something first so as we can find where the problem is. here are the steps. 1. turn on the TV. 2. tune to a program. or watch a movie via DVD. 3. now place you ears near the speakers. 4. do you hear a soft hum? 5. no, set the volume high. do you hear the hum? still no. problem is the amplifier. 6. yes. problem is before the amplifier.
1. problem with the amplifier no soft hum. this problem is due to a failure of the amplifier IC. or an open loudspeaker driver. this you can do, check the wiring of the loudspeaker if it is intact. you may need to disassemble it carefully to have a see. If intact, next is the IC amplifier test/replacement. you need a service technician to do this.
2. problem with the amplifier with a soft hum. this tell you that the amplifier section is good, and the audio source is not reaching the amplifier input. this needs a thorough check on the main board. to conduct this test we need very expensive test instruments, so I suggest have this checked by the service center instead.

I have no audio

Hello sir, Hi, No Audio on your TV can be user error or Hardware error, for the user error, make sure that the TV is not set to low volume or the setup is on MUTE, for the hardware error, Place your ear close to the speakers, then set the volume up and down several times, you should hear a soft hum that goes up or down, (make sure that the room is quiet.) The soft hum means that the power amplifier is working properly. so the problem may be on the main board where the sound is being produce before amplification, usually the sound IF section. NOW if you did not hear the soft hum, problem with the amplifier and speakers, A physical checking for open wire contact or loose connection is needed.

Carrier Compressor Issues?

When you shut it off and back on it slugged the compressor if you turn it off and back on before the pressures equalize between the high and low sides it will slug the compressor and it will not run should let sit for five minutes or so before restarting. The humming is either the compressor making noise usually common for the compressor to make some noise or the fan motor bearings are getting bad on the outside unit. If the unit works normal probably not much you can do till it breaks if it is the compressor it is more economical to replace the whole unit if it is just the fan motor it is worth changing. You could take an amp draw on the fan motor and the compressor to see if the are within the limits on the name plate of the outside unit.

I have a pioneer elite vsx 36tx receiver that quit working. When I turn it on it just hums. It seems like a power supply but not sure.

I have the same receiver.

Do you mean there is an audible hum from the unit, or that speaker output(s) hum?

Let's figure out what DOES work...

Do you get the audible relay click a few seconds after power up?

Does it tune FM?

Can you get the On Screen Display? Settings all ok?

What preceded this? RSVP.

Headphone impedance ?

Hi allanbro

The impedance of the headphones will not produce problems such as hum. The amp will be able to drive any impedance headphones anyways. I WOULD be concerned as to why the hum is there however. It may be that you are noticing it because they are headphones. If you go right up to your Missions, and put your ear almost in the woofer... can you hear the hum. Headphones can reproduce mains hum quite easily, whereas, you may not get the same levels of reproduction from a bookshelf speaker.

Do a few checks first to ensure that it is not a connecting lead for your system inducing hum in. Best way to do this is to select tuner, and turn the vol right down. If it is only audible with signal from an external source, try rearranging the leads to the rear of the amp away from mains cables, fluorescent lights, TV's, anything that may produce the hum.

If nothing seems to change or alter the problem, and it is there at with the vol turned right down, I would suspect that the amp has a power supply regulation problem that will need to be sorted out. If it is new, I suggest returning it to the retailer for them to resolve the problem for you.

I am more than happy to answer any other questions you may have about it, just give me a hoy :) Thanks for using FixYa, If you consider the advice I have given you as sound, a FixYa rating is a great reward for my efforts to help you. Cheers.
