ADG6340 not washing well. Now tablet doesn't dissolve sometimes.
Hello My Whirlpool ADG6340 has been giving me problems for a long time. It started with leaving stains on the cutlery then with not cleaning cups and glasses on the top shelf. They would come out dirtier than when they went in. Then it was getting very noisy. This progressed to stopping mid cycle for a long time maybe half an hour or more and then starting up again. Now its progressed to the dishwasher tablet not dissolving sometimes and a lot of the dishes being dirty when cycle is finished. The diswasher has been cleaned regularly with cleaning solution and drain has been cleaned regularly. We had 2 Whirlpool engineers out - 1 said it could be the pump the other said to stop using 3 in 1 tablets and revert to tablets salt and rinse aid as he thought our water was too hard. In fact our water is soft. Do you have any suggestions?

Are you using a rapid wash program, ie 30 minutes total?
if you are, put the tablet in the cutlery basket, not the soap dispenser. The wash time is very short on the 30 min program, so putting it in the cutlery basket gives it more time to dissolve.
Other problems might be problem with water level, (should be just above the filter but below the lip of the wash tank), pump not working or the spray arms not turning - (check the angled jet at the very end of the spray arm for blockage by food particles).
I quit using the tablets a long time ago...just like you, they never really dissolved, and left residue on my dishes. I only buy liquid now, try a few out. You will be surprised when all of your dishes are actually clean, and nothing is left in your dishwasher when it completes. Best wishes with going back to where we started years ago...sometimes older things are better at doing things* Michelle~
I would have advised you before placing the tablet dry compartment with a dry cloths otherwise tablet would be stuck together. If does't help then put the tablet directly into the sink and never choose a quick program if you do not have functions (like 3 in 1, multi tab and so on....) that extend the time of duration of washing phase and give enough time for dissolve tab. Sometimes people on the upper basket hang up various odors or put dishes that may prevent to open small door to the end and dropping tablet.
The tablet most likely will drop during the washing cycle but the remaining time is not enough to dissolve the tablet and wash result will be bad.
The water may not be hot enough to disolve the tablet. Sometime during the wash cycle open the door and check the temp of the water. If it is cool you may need to run the tap water at the sink until it gets hot and then start your dishwasher.
sometimes the dispenser doors are not designed for tablets, and they don't let enough water in to dissolve them....next time you wash; put the tablet in one of the silverware compartments....should do the trick. and leave the dispenser door for liquid detergents only.
if this is helpful please click the correct button. thanks
The water is not hot enough. It may be pausing to heat the water and when you open the door it resets and starts again. Check the electric element at the bottom that heats the water to see if it is burnt out.
Recommend you stop using the gel and switch to a brand name powder - like Electrosol or Cascade. Never use gel, gel packs or tablets in any dishwasher. Avoid untra-cheap, generic powders.
If problems continue, a service call, with them checking that the heating element is working is the follow up step.

It sound like a detergent cup issue (the door doesn't open at time)
A very simple test for it is to place a tablet on the bottom of the dishwasher for a full cycle and to see what happen to the tablet. In case the tablet will be dissolved :
- The detergent cup can become clogged with old dried detergent that prevents it from opening at time. Sometimes just cleaning the cup takes care of the problem.
- The detergent cup opened by a bi-metal switch or a wax motor located inside your dishwasher door(behind the detergent cup).
If cup's cleaning will not solve the problem, you should replace the bi-metal switch or the wax motor (depend which of them is used in your machine).
Good luck !
