No reset, the pump may have just failed internally, try another plugin to varify power, if no joy than look at a new pump

Well if its making noise when u turn it on and nothing happens the , the motor burnt out , or the propeller has broken allowing for no water to be discharged. If no noise when it is running then it has burn out. If doesn't do anything check the power going to it, then check the float to make sure it is free and working.

Unplug and try freeing up the impeller by hand. You may have to remove bottom of pump to gain access.

Its supposed to be controlled entirely by the float switch in the pit, etc. Its not uncommon for the pump to work or stay on even if the water level drops because the float can get hung up on the pipes, side walls, debris in the pit etc. You need to eliminate all those issues. Other issue is the float switch my be bad, hanging up or need resetting to the proper height etc. If its still a problem try replacing it with a water sensor switch instead.

Little Giant 506065 - 2 did not work after 21 days, different pump better?

Are you running these pumps full-time, even if they're dry? If you are, that's far beyond their design. The sink should drain into a sump or cistern, then the pump should empty the cistern on demand from a float switch.

I don't know of any pump except possibly a bellows-type bilge pump, that can be expected to run full-time, even when dry.

Only way to shut off Little Giant sump pump is to unplug it. What is making it run all the time?

Assuming that your pump has a built in float switch, I would suggest that the float switch is frozen, stuck or damaged. If you have an underwater pump that does not have such a switch then it probably is designed to only be used manually. I have a little giant pump which is designed to go underwater but must be plugged in to use and unplugged to stop. I'm assuming you have had this pump a while and in the past has always worked automatically. Again , if yours is automatic, it's the switch. Unless it's a simple thing like a frozen arm, I doubt you can fix it unless you can replace the entire waterproof assembly without tearing into it. It must remain waterproof to be electrically safe.
You may find that only a factory repair will be the proper solution.

With a megger or a decent multimeter you should be able to check the cord and motor for grounds. It is tripping a GFI though so testing at this point is redundant. The bad news is that a grounded submersible pump motor is never worth fixing. A new unit is about $200 and even a cheap shop at $50/hr would take at least a couple of hours to disassemble, clean and re-insulate the winding. That assumes re-insulating it will fix the ground which is often not the case. In short, your best bet for a unit that is no longer covered under warranty is to replace it once the electrical system goes to ground.

Hi Tom (and Lindsay?),

Ok lets get a little more info,
  1. Plugged in? (Have to ask)
  2. Does it run and not pump?
  3. Does not run?
  4. Tried moving the float switch?
  5. Pull the pump and see if the intakes are clogged
Please comment back with your findings
