Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Bought my 60 gig system in Mar 07 for $600 Nov 09 I got the blue yellow then flashing red light. I called sony and had to pay $150 for the repair. Now up to $750 out of pocket. The refurbished unit last about 6 wks then the same issue w/ the flashing red light. Got another system under the 90 day warranty and last night the system died again with the same exact issue. They refuse to admit there's a design flaw and it might be where I'm storing the unit. I' ve had enough of the lies.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Not a solution as such, but I have had the same issue, replaced HDD with aftermarket and original PS3 drives, replaced PSU with replacement original and Hong Kong variants, tried different Blue Ray drive in there added new Silver based Thermal paste to CPU cores, double checked the Fan in a second PS3, even tried with and without a card reader (last ditch attempt). All failed to fix the red led issue, and all the components are tested working, the only thing left is the main board, which has to be the only component left at fault.
My console was a gen 1 , and was well passed warranty, if yours is also out of warranty, successful repairs are Hard Drives and Power Supplies, I have seen console come back with these fixes. If you can fix it with either of these, good for you, these are reasonable costing components that are worth a try, and are sell-able if not successful. After this point, its not worth throwing anymore money at it.
Part it up and sell it, buy another console...I did

Actually, the yellow light is for overheating. this is a power unit failure issue here. you will need to contact Sony for this repair. The Power unit will need to be replaced.
To prevent overheating, a mini cooler aftermarket device is recommended.
As for the warranty service. we do not offer any services of that nature. You will need to contact Sony for the warranty extensions and service.
