Re: printer is telling me i have alignement problems
Anytime you remove the cartridge the printer wants to align the print head. It doesn't matter whether you used it or not as long as you change/remove and/or install a new or old cartridge, it will ask to align. If you are printing text only and no pictures, then usually alignment is not critical. Though from experience, it is but usually 9 times out of 10 I don't need to re-align. But if you want to print pictures then you must align.

Run the printer software to do an "alignment" -- basically, it prints one page,
and then you scan the page, and the printer reads the printed page, to measure the "offset"
from where the BLACK versus the COLOUR ink prints. It will then electronically adjust the printer.
Open up the "Printer Solution Center." If there is no icon on your desktop for your Lexmark printer, click on the "Start" menu button, which is located at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Click on "All Programs," and then look for "Lexmark." Select the "Printer Solution Center.
Choose "Install a new printer cartridge" under the "Maintenance" tab.
Click on "Next" until you see the "Print the Alignment page" option, then choose "Print."
Repeat steps 1,2 and 3 if the ink level gauge still isn't showing sufficient ink.
Follow the instructions below to install the print cartridges for the first time.
Installing print cartridgesStep one: Install the print cartridges
Follow these steps to install the cartridges.
Open the cartridge door.
The carriage moves to the far right side of the product.

Do not touch the cartridge ink nozzles or copper contacts. Touching these parts will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.Do not remove the copper strips. They are required electrical contacts.

Slide each new cartridge forward into the empty slot. Then gently push theupper part of the cartridge forward until it clicks into place.
Insert the tri-color cartridge into the left slot.
Insert the black cartridge into the right slot.

Close the cartridge door.
Step two: : Align the print cartridge
The product prompts you to align cartridges every time you install a cartridge. You can also align the cartridges at any time from the control panel, or byusing the software you install with the product. Aligning the cartridgesensures high quality output.
Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
Press OK. The product prints an alignment page.
Place the alignment page print-side down on the scanner glass.
Press OK to scan the alignment page. When the scan finishes, the alignment is complete.
If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align the cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper into the inputtray, and then try the alignment again.
Make sure the protective tape covering the new cartridge has been COMPLETELY removed then reinsert. Your printer should tell you that a new cartridge is inserted and ask to print a test page, align etc. Otherwise your cartridge may have a faulty chip which simply wont read. In which case you need to return it and get a replacement.
On your computer, go to "Start," "Programs," "Lexmark Series." Click "Lexmark Control Program."
the "Cartridges" tab. Click "Change Cartridges." The Change Cartridges
screen appears, displaying the animated instructions for installing or
changing cartridges. When you have finished viewing the animation,
click the "Finished" button.
Remove the tape covering the print head of the new print cartridge. Insert the new print cartridge as shown in the animation.
the "Choose Cartridges" screen appears, select the cartridge(s) you
installed in your printer from the list boxes. Click the appropriate
box to reset the ink levels to full. Click "OK."
Automatic Alignment screen appears. Click "Align" to align the print
cartridges for best print quality. The printer prints a page with a
bi-directional alignment pattern. On the printed test page, locate the
number that comes closest to forming a straight line under the
bi-directional alignment pattern. Enter that number as the
bi-directional alignment setting in the Alignment Cartridge dialog box.
