On both sides almost all the way to the back of the base there is a slot insert a screw driver thru the top of the slot to release the latches, the cover will lift towards the front, BE CAREFUL OF THE FLAT CABLE THAT THAT GOES TO THE LIGHTS.

How do you remove cover on Lexmark 1000 ?

There is a slot on the lower rear on each side, insert a slotted screw driver in the top of the slot while lifting the cover, rock it to the front, be careful tou can rip out the indicator lamp cable or damage the lower R. hand keys

Paper cylinder does not rotate!

Check to be sure the platen is still fully seated in the side frames.
Align the blacl latches with the side frames and press firmly on both sides. Dropping is not a good thing.

Wheelwriter 1000 beeps when I try to type!

Could be a few things, board, power supply, keyboard or printer.
But there are some things you can check, remove the printwheel and look for debris in that area, unplug and replug the keyboard, if you are really adventurious remove the cover and keyboard and look for paper clips or staples on or under the pc board.

Storing information on the lexmark 1000 typewriter

For the LexMark Wheelwriter 1000 you can only "Reprint" the information you have typed. Once you turn off the machine the "reprint" mode will not longer retain information.

Lexmark wheelwriter 1000

Check the keyboard connections. Open the top cover and look just below from the top. You will see two ribbon cables. Make sure they are fully inserted. Are any of the keyboard lights flashing?
