Unable to read the Cruzer 8GB flash drive

Most likely then its a hardware issue with the drive, try the following:
1- Plug the USB key into the computer 2- Click Start 3- Right Click on Computer (Win7) or My Computer (XP) and select manage 4- Select Storage and then Disk Management
Here you should be able to see the drive and it will show if there is media or any type of partition on the drive. If it the USB key still shows up as a CD-ROM and you have tested on two computer its the key that is the issue and you would need to replace it

Hi, i put in my sandisk usb, computer sees it but wont let me store anything on it??

Your SanDisk Cruzer appears on your computer as two drives
  1. A CD-ROM ( with the icon of a Cd-Rom) that contains the U3Smart Operating system, but does not have any space for storage.
  2. A mass storage device.
The two devices are labeled sequentially if CD-ROM is E, the mass-storage drive is F, but that is not guaranteed.

You should drop files on the mass-storage device, not the CD-ROM.

No dvd/cd rom icon

From what I read, Acer Empowering software is no big deal. Some say it's fine, others say nothing worthwhile. If you aren't thrilled with it, you might consider uninstalling it and seeing if it brings your CD-rom back. If you want to keep it or uninstall of Empowering software doesn't work, uninstall the CD-rom and then let Windows rediscover and install it again.

Go into Device Manager, right click on CD-rom and choose uninstall. Close out and restart.

PhotoMAX software CD?

# Try inserting a different CD to make sure your CD-ROM drive is working. If the CD-ROM drive cannot read any CD, contact your computer manufacturer -- it's possible that your CD-ROM drive is not working properly. # Make sure the PhotoMAX CD is clean, with no fingerprints, dirt, or smudges. If necessary, you can clean the CD with a lint-free cloth and warm water. Dry with a hairdryer on the cool setting. Make sure the CD-ROM is completely dry before attempting to load it again.
