Hard drive short-circuit

Hi,

My hard rive went down last night. The power cable cam loose and it seems to have shorted something. The PC won't start with the drive installed - that is even if the power cable is attached the drive the system won't start.

The drive is fairly new but has 500Gb of downloads I really want to save.

Can a new circuit board save my woes?

thanks

I have the same problem, can anybody help out? Is it possible to put the disk in the harddrive in another case? (long shot), is the board the only thing that could short by an accidental mistake with electricity? Thanks a lot!

Try taking the drive out of your computer and placing it in another computer as a "slave". Allow the other computer to boot up and seeif it recognizes your hard drive.

If it does, access your files that you need and copy and paste to an external hard drive till you can replace your computer with a new hard drive. It's worth a try.

Sp1203N HDD when I plug in the power cable to the HDD it shuts down the PC power supply and there is a electrical smell from the HDD unit

> electrical smell from the HDD

That's a strong sign that the electronic circuit-board under the disk-drive has short-circuited, and has melted-down.

It's time to purchase a new disk-drive.

I have installed a hdd to an hp pavillion zd7000 with no hdd cage, problem is it wont turn on but if i remove hdd it turns on,what seems to be the problem?

The only thing that comes to me is that the naked disk short circuits something. Or, possibly, the disk is installed incorrectly and prevents the system from booting. Check the connector is properly oriented and aligned. Last possibility, the hard disk is defective (e.g., it has a short-circuited power section).

Intermatic ML300RTW not working

Yes this loose strands is probably the issue, the Transformer is working too hard and shuts down. you can make sure by removing all the bulbs but the last one and turning the transformer on, if it fails- you've got bad wiring. move the x-former closer to the lights so you don't have very much bad wiring.

Dell XPS M1330 PC - battery not detected

The error code 0146 and the battery are two separate problems. First the battery problem is simple, it's bad and needs replaced. It being bad can refer to a developed short, a fail safe kicked in, or it's simply worn out. It is a battery after all, ad they don't last forever, the more you use them the quicker they wear out. A bad battery causing an issue is vary common with Dell machines, and a false battery reading with a failing battery is also common. The orange flashing battery light is the indicator that the battery isn't working properly, either by fail safe or wear.

The error code 0146 Is from the short test on the hard drive and indicates the a sector is going bad, and eventually the hard drive is going to fail. At this point, your hard drive may last days, or months. Either way, I suggest that you back up all important data, and purchase a new hard drive for the imminent failure. You might even go ahead and set it up, this way you'll be prepared when it does go, and you won't have any downtime.
