The first thing to is try to eliminate the cartridge as a cause of the fault. You can do this by swapping the connections around on the cartridge. If you get the weakness still on the Red cable you know it is that. Solder joints do cause trouble, often the earth is the problem. Try resoldering the joints. Or replace the entire cable as there might be a break.

The phono cable's do tend to fail, usually near the phono plug or under the cord clamp.
The best option is to replace the cable - look here :-

I need my rca's changed cause of break in the wire. Can I do this myself or Do I need to have a repair shop do it? On my SL 1200 MK2

you could try cutting off the cables leaving enough to strip them back a bit, buy some rca leads and using electrical screw connectors ( the type electricians use and also find inside light fittings to wire them to the mains) and connect it like that? failing that get it done at a hi fi repair shop? good luck

Hi,

It sounds like the rca (phono) leads also check your cartridge.

Don't forget to ground the ground cable from the turntable.

First and foremost, make sure you plug into directly to the PHONO input of your receiver. If your unit does not have a PHONO input, then you wont be able to hear much coming from the unit. The PHONO input is a pre-amplified input, and this turntable requires an amplified input in order to transmit it's signal correctly. Just using an AUX or LINE IN will not have enough power to increase the signal of the turntable. You have the option of purchasing a PHONO PRE-AMPLIFIER (range in price from US$15-30), or purchasing a new receiver with a PHONO INPUT!

If you have it connected to your phono input, and still no sound, your turntable may have either faulty RCA cables (red/white cables), or a bad tonearm - in either case will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps.
