Hi, I have the same problem with mine. Janome have not been very helpful. I didn't know if it was the card or the card reader/writer. I have a Janome CX500. Have you solved any of the problems?

I am having the same problem, did you ever solve your problem? How??

  • louisehedges Dec 07, 2010

Hi, No I didn't. Contacted Janome... they say card in the customiser 2000 now obsolete and would not be able to get one anywhere. The CX500 cannot be updated to take Compact card and adapter (bought adapter ... would not go into machine slot.), also machine is old fashioned technology, according to Janome and cannot be updated.
So unless you can get any ready made design cards there is no chance of using Customiser 2000. I think very poor for Janome as the machine and customiser that I bought, even though it be about 10 years ago, is now in fact just a sewing machine and not the embroidery machine that I purchased.

You will need a serial-to-usb adapter if you do not have the correct pin connector on your computer. These are available at most places that sell electronics. Take the Reader/Writer dongle with you to be sure you get the proper pin-number connector. Connect the bridge to the Reader/Writer dongel by connecting the two pin ends. The drivers should automatically install once you insert the USB end into your computer. If not, follow the Install Wizard directions and be prepared to Google for the driver if the Wizard cannot find it. Once the Reader/Writer dongle is connected to your computer via this serial-to-usb bridge, you can find it in the Device Manager listed as an AETN USB to Serial Bridge. Click on the Advanced tab to change the Com Port number. You may also need to set the Bits Per Second Speed in the Port Settings tab. You may also have to change the Com settings in the Customizer 2000 software. It may take some trial and error before you find the settings that enable you to transfer files from your comptuter to your dongle, but once you have them, you are set! I also suggest writing the settings down for future reference.

Customiser 2000 will not connect to a laptop as it has a 9 pin serial port (female) and the laptops have a 15 pin (female) I have bought 2 different cables but none work it just says serial port did not...

Are you using a USB-to-serial adapter?

I *think* what the problem might be is that the COM port's not been set in Customizer. Within either of the Easy/Customizer apps, go to ScanCard>Communication Settings ... you'll open up a dialog box within which you can set which COM port your cable's going to use.

If you're compie savvy, you can go to the Windows Start button on Task bar>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>COM ports and SEE which COM port your cable's using.

But until your software knows what COM port your cable's using it will NOT recognize that you have one installed.

Please let me know if this doesn't help! Or if there's anything I can help with!! :)

Communication error for Customizer 2000

Is this the first time you've tried to use the Reader/Writer?

I ask only because many people don't realize that a necessary step in setting up communication is to set the "COM Port" designation within Customizer/Digitizer.

If you've not done this, within either application, go to >ScanCard>Communication Settings> and choose the COM Port you want to use (you can find out what COM port the cable's using by going to your Start/Task Bar in Windows>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Ports (COM & LPT). There, you should be able to see what port your cable's using.

Then set that COM in your application's Communication Settings dialog box.

Hopefully, I made sense here and explained it well. If I didn't, please let me know where I went goofy and I'm more than happy to clarify!! :)

Also let me know if that does NOT solve your problem!!

Cannot just scan into machine. Need to digitize any image before you can sew it. Need digitizer, customizer or pay someone to digitize it and then put on card.

Can I use my Scan n Sew PC on XP. If so is it

What version of Customizer are you using?

To answer your question without knowing *all* of the specifics, yes, you can use your S&S PC on computers running XP. You will need, however, a serial-to-USB adapter. You can pick one up at Best Buy for about $30 or you can take your chances at eBay for about $15 (with shipping). I, myself, bought mine at eBay and got a great deal.

Once you've hooked up (and installed the software for) the adapter and your S&S PC, you need to tell Customizer which COM port to use. To do this, open Customizer (either EasyEdit or EasyImport) and click the "ScanCard" menu item. Choose "Communication Settings" in the drop-down menu and then choose "COM4" in the "Channel" drop-down menu. You may need to play with the "Baud rate" to get the best results.

From there, Customizer will be able to speak to your Scan N Sew and vice versa!! :)

If there's anything I can clarify, please let me know!! :)

Customizer's reader/writer 2000 quit working

I am having the same problem with the Customizer 2000. Worked before but now I get a "communication error". I'm thinking the problem is with the cable. You mentioned you got a new cable. Can you tell me what kind you got and where you got it? I don't know what else could fix the problem. Thanks for your help. I wish I could help you.

Downloading embroidary designs for the Janome MC 350E

Firstly, format your compact flash card on your embroidery machine. This is presuming you have embroidery files in your jef format your machine reads on your computer. Place your compact flash in the compact flash card reader writer connected to your computer, open the compact flash card in your computer, open the file emb5. Now you can simply copy and paste a design from your computer to your flash card. It works for me. Goodluck.
