Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV318 Camcorder
If the camera can record images, and they do not show in the viewfinder while the recording is being done, the fault may be the following:
My answer will be generic to almost all video cameras in general.
On the circuit board where the viewfinder control is done, there is an IC and some electronics for this process. It is possible that this IC or something in the related circuits is not working properly, or there is a bad ribbon cable, or a cold solder connection.
The first thing to do before bringing the camera for service, is to check the menus if you can see them. Make sure that there is no option turn on in order to use an external viewfinder while the camera is in the record mode. If you cannot view the camera setup menu check for a mechanical switch on the side, or back of the camera, or in a compartment for this option. If all else fails, then there is a fault condition.
Also read through the instruction manual, and through the fault sections.
