I want to replace/install 1.5TB drive in HP Elite Desktop, HOW?

I have an hp Pavilion Elite m1950f. I am running a sata raid splitting two 360GB drives. i have a Western Digital 1.5 tb 32MB SATA-3G drive ready to install. how do I install it and will my hp automatically identify a new drive and update the raid to it? Then can I install another one so that I have exactly the same massive drives to protect all my files in raid? thanks in advance I am newbie to this stuff and paranoid as it is for my business computer and don't want to mess it up. Can't go anymore days with problems and not working in and on the business. Love/hate technology paranoid to lose anything now. patrick.

No OS stated.
if it was working now, we'd not do any of that, take no data risk.
why risk it?
we'd build new machine, and the clone it over. (all the ways ,lots)
then you unplug this old dog and put the new one online.
after testing it fully, sure.
that gets ride of the hate stuff, no? doing it right?

no idea at all the system usage
on a DOMAIN at work
or a server behind a fire wall
or a server to the web with web content?
a gaming server at home
a video server at home.
or?????? i can go here like 100 pages of ideas.....
seems to me that be first to know.

or just a account payable server in Finance office.

answer 2.
that raid controller must be learned.
did you read the full book on it yet
that be first first if doing this the hard way.
all such controllers have there own set of rules.
some are very smart can just plug in a drive and it syncs.
then add or replace more, slowly and with monitors running
from HP to make sure its ok as you go.
Like done on huge proliant servers.

question 1
who's RAID is it
MS pure software raid (sux)
on board STAT raid chip of some kind. (no full service tag shown)
or adding major top raid controller, (best of best this is)
??????????????????

if i search HP.com for your DT, puter is a dead product.
so can not read you manual for you,
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-Elite-m9000-Desktop-PC-series/3644723/model/3644724/

the word raid is missing in all manuals there.
so I must be using the wrong model number
try going to HP.com
the tell HP your full tag data, and then see if its the model
with RAID< if yes,the books now match your rig.
then read the manual on the rules for RAID
i bet you they SUX.
most do on cheap raid controllers. its not high end and is
the pathway to H3LL of you guess.

best i can find is not at HP but the chip it has, Intel ICH9R

id talk the these guys on that,
https://communities.intel.com/thread/48046

the limits are in the HP BIOS rom too.
more links, gee ask HP.cOM forum>?

read the gray box here G33, its what HP tells you the limits

and some basic rules, and what there BIOS for RAID and not.

the 2 driver must be IDENTICAL. even same P/N to a fault.

    no cache size differences. either..

the secret back door to RAID BIOS is Control + I (at boot)

Raid 0? 1, you never said and matters big time.

    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Ope...

first back it all up (even if a raid 1)

the build a new array, install it and set the BIOS correctly

    then restore all data.

    Raid 0 or RAID one

    0 = stripe set (ecc , methods)

1= mirror. (no ecc , no ecc benefits)

    nut shell

"If one of the Raid0 array drives were to fail, all the data on both drives would be lost.

The Raid1 array reads and writes the same data to both the hard drives in the Raid array at the same time.

If one of the drives were to fail, a new hard drive can be installed to replace the failed drive, and the system booted and the Raid1 array will be rebuilt, meaning the data from the existing working hard drive will be copied to the new hard drive.

    "

best is to read the pros and cons of Raid 0 and 1 first

personally id run a top brand plug in RAID CARD with all versions

    RAID supported, and better protections.

try to learn why striped sets work so good.

what matters is what is the fail modes, mostlikely for your

1 dead drive (will not spin or cant read anything ever again)

    virus infection (yah #1 )

or a 5year old disk , using up all its spare sectors then corrupts.

? (this is very common on all drives, all do it eventually) ecc helps.

    or

power supply (PSU) going nuts and blowing them all up in 1 sec.flat.

sure. seen it many times. (smoke and ALL)

building gets hit with lightening/(see smoke)

or like me we had 240ac on the 120v line, due to ELECT company connected a main switch yard transformer wrong,?

they paid my bill , i sued. and won..(took out my UPS )

The raid is more resilient to to some failures. and has VALUE.

what matters is backups, only those work.

for sure step 1.... I use, Acronis backups. no spam but is cheap.

and 30 free version works both directions, did so yesterday.

and can co partial restores, just did that too.

How to get device manager to recognize SuperMulti DVD Burner? The player is installed (or was) and worked, but it suddenly vanished from device manager.

You should open the case and see if the power cable and sata cables are secured on the drive..... it is possible that the DVD drive control board has died. Considering there are many DVD burners out there for less than $20 the replacement should be cheap and simple.

Here's how to open and replace a CD/DVD drive from the HP site:

Left-click on - Product information - in blue
Left-click on - Product specifications - in blue
Left-click on - Motherboard specifications, N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix)

Here you see a photo of your motherboard.
Now scroll down to the illustration of the motherboard.

Here you can see the four SATA headers labeled.

1) SATA 1 is the Dark Blue SATA header, that your harddrive should be plugged into now.

2) SATA 2 is the White SATA header

3) SATA 3 is the Light Blue SATA header

4) SATA 4 is the Orange SATA header.

The other three SATA harddrives are plugged into SATA 2, SATA 3, and SATA 4.
BIOS will automatically find them, when the computer is turned on.

It will also recognize, that the main harddrive you have plugged into SATA 1, is the only harddrive with the Operating System on it.

FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside a computer.

Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open.
TOUCH an unpainted surface of the metal frame, of the open computer case. This action will relieve your body of Static.

IF you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to touch the metal frame again upon your return ]

Problem on loadind windows xp on hp pavilion dv2000 laptop

That happens because the BIOS uses a SATA controller that is not included in Windows XP install disk.

Usually you can solve the problem going to BIOS settings and changing SATA/RAID settings.Check your BIOS settings, and disable SATA RAID mode. This is done in different ways depending on the BIOS.

On HP/Compaq computers for example you press F2 on startup to enter BIOS, then disable SATA mode on bios settings.
On other makes the procedure can be slightly different.

Another way to fix the problem, is by creating your own XP setup disk with SATA drivers included, see:

Motherboard

Most of the new systems and motherboards support SATA connectors onboard. In your case there is none as you have found. So the best option is always upgrading to a new motherboard in case you need to add more SATA drives. You can also try to find SATA add-on cards, may a little costly types. These cards use PCI interface and very easy to install but hard to find one. I hpoe you could find one from a hardware store near you. If your motherboard has ordinary PCI slots then the SATA adpter will be less costly, otherwise (if it features a PCI-X slot) it will be costly. Following is a simple description on what the market has to offer: SATA II - 150 4Ports PCI-X with NCQ, Raid 0+1, Raid 0 and Raid 1 ! You can upgrade your desktop computer to have four Channels Serial ATA Generation 1 and Generation 2 transfer rate of 1.5 Gbps. The board provides a 64bit, 133 MHz PCI interface on the host side and four, fully compliant Serial ATA ports on the device side to access Serial ATA storage devices such as hard disk drive, ZIP drive, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM. Note: Fault tolerance: RAID 0 (Striping), RAID 1 (Mirroring), RAID 0+1 (mirrored-stripping) and RAID 1+S (Mirrored-Sparing) improve the data performance and provide the data redundancy and rebuilding.
