On this unit, the entire back is a removable panel. I learned that there are actually three common problems that are easily remedied. In addition to the thermostat, there is a thermostatic fuse that often goes bad. Also, it is typical for the ignitor switch to need replaced, which requires access from the front of the unit. To test which device may be the culprit, simply unplug the unit from the wall, disconnect the fuse wires and attach them directly to one another. If the dryer generates heat when plugged back in after a few moments of running then replace the fuse. Repeat the same test with the thermostat wires if the first test does not bring results with the fuse. If neither test produces heat then it will then most likely be the ignitor.. All three are relatively inexpensive fixes.

Whirlpool Gas Dryer model GGW9868KQO (2001) Stopped heating in middle of cycle. Tub turns and blows cool air out vent. Can you describe the thermo fuse and whatever else it could be and what they look like and where they are located in dryer? Thank you so much.

On the back, lower right side of the dryer is an access panel to get to the thermostat and heating element. Be VERY careful of the sharp edges, they will cut with NO warning. Look at the heating element and verify that there are no breaks in the wire. If they are intact, I suggest replacing the thermostat. It is a fairly inexpensive part and can be found at www.partstoday.com. Let me know please if there is anything else I can for you.

check outside drye vent where it goes through the wall they clog up with lint sometimes and force the escaping warm air to back up which causes sensor to give wrong reading if this is clogged just clear it till you feel the air coming through also check vent at bottom of dryer disconnect flex pipe and check for clogs there as well ..and always clear lint trap after every load
