all the silver side circuits are intact. I don't see any scratches. How would I know if this is the the pcb that is defective? Can something else cause to have "unable to init" error message?

Is the flatcable ok at the (blue/silver side) which goes to the pcb? Or are there some circuits(scratched silver plains) within the cable?

Sometimes the pcb is defective.

Sometimes the connection within the sacnner is faulty.

The mechanical error is something literally wrong with the mechanics, usually this error occurs after a paper jam and when the paper is pulled out it cracks the maintenance unit.

Other issues include the switching arm, the ink cartridge/purge switch harness, purge cam switch, paper feed motor, and the main pcb.

Brother MFC 420cn "Cannot Init"

This is the Head Error 41

Error 41 means there is a major problem with the printhead, usually
requires a print head replacement.

My advice is to take it to a
Brother service centre while if it is under warranty.

If it's out of warranty they are usually a throw away job, the heads cost as much as the printer.

Sorry I know what it feels like, just have a go and see what you can do, clean the heads and so on.

No disk

Hi There,

You can save yourself some time and money by doing a Google search for the Brother MFC-420CN installation CD. I am not sure what Operating System you have on your PC/Laptop but if you Google something like: ie.. Installation CD WinXP Brother MFC-420CN - you will get a good amount of responses. Then you can either save the info to your hard drive or burn it to a CD.

Sometimes if you contact the manufacturer and tell them you lost your CD - they will send one out for free.

Both of these options work, but I would go with the download cause if you lose it again the info will be stored and don't forget to backup your downloads for future use..

Hope this helps and please don't forget to rate me.

Thanks and Happy Holidays..

Brother printer 420cn

actually the power cord is the only one that comes with the printer. In some cases brother has put an usb-cable into the box. For mfc with network connection there is no usb cable included.

MY MFC-240C ISN'T WORKING

You simply have to reconnect the flat cable of the scanner to the main pcb.
Therefore you have to open the mfc by opening the scanner cover as when you have a paperjam. Loose the the blue support by pressing down the clip on the right side and pushing the support to the right.
Disassemble the "Z"-forming by carefully pressing it up at the latches which can be seen. The flat cable has to be connected to the main pcb simply by sticking it into position :-)

Error will disappear.

Did you had a lighting strike the days before?

Brother MFC 420CN error message DF

Did you had lightning strikes or a high tension the days before? DF means that the faxmodem which is placed on the pcb is in disorder. The pcb has to be changed (sparepart is more expensive then a new mfc!)
