The Service Manual lists it as a standard IDE drive. Your best bet is to take it to a local computer shop. They can remove the drive and add it to a test bench set up, then transfer all the data to a pen drive as the hard drive is only 2.1 Gb.
You need a windows Vista disc. Insert the disc and follow the prompts. I would format the hard drive instead of upgrading do a new install. The best way would be to go into your bios and make sure the boot device order has the cd-rom booting before the hard drive. Then put the disc in and start the computer, when it says press any key to boot from cd hit any key and let it load and then follow the prompts to install.
