You don't. RAW files record all the data from the sensor, and that includes the color info. The best way to get B&W photos from your camera is to do the conversion in software on a computer, as this will give you much more control over contrast, brightness, and other factors. Otherwise you'll have to record B&W JPEG files.

Hi. Switched to RAW instead of JPEG, now unable to upload photos, is this because of files being RAW format? Is it possible to convert them (these are shots I need!). Thanks, N.

If your camera did not come with the software to convert RAW images, and your computer does not have a photo editing program with a raw converter built-in, there are editing programs you can purchase such as Photoshop Elements (about $99) that can do the job and much more.

CR2 files are created when you shoot RAW files. Your computer cannot read them without a Canon RAW plugin in whatever image processing software you're using.

Your camera can be set to record in JPEG, RAW or JPEG and RAW.

I hope this has helped you, if not then please add a comment to explain what additional information you'd like regarding this problem but otherwise please take a moment to rate my answer.

I'm using my Canon 350D to shoot jewellery in a pop up "cube" and it gives a very yellow light. Is there any way to adjust the 350D for a bright white light? Many thanks Anthony

Try the various white balance settings until you find the one you're looking for. If you don't find one in the presets, you can set a manual white balance using a white sheet of paper...check your owner's manual for instructions.

Changing that setting was aparently a BAD idea!

Hello: Try updating the firmware for the camers and software. Go to canon and download the firmware to a flash drive and connect your camera and install the latest firmware from canon.

Transporting pics

Easiest way is to take out the CF card and put it into a USB card reader with a CF slot.
You can then just drag/drop files from the camera card to your PC.

If you have taken RAW files only you will need to convert the pics to JPG using the canon photo professional software.

Taking Black and White pictures on a Canon A430

Place the camera in manual mode (M on the dial). Pess the 'Function' button and icons will appear at the right of the screen. Select the second to the last icon, this is the "My Colors" menu. Press the right keypad button until you have selected "BW" for black and white.

Setting RAW as file format

Make sure that the mode dial is not set to one of the 'Basic Zones', i.e. Auto, Portrait, Landscape, etc. You should be able to select RAW or RAW+L in P, Tv, Av, M, or A-DEP.

Downloading photos from Canon 400D direct to Canons photo editing programmes on new windows Vista computer.

There are two ways to solve this problem. I am assuming you are simply clicking on the pictures and choosing "edit" or double clicking on the pictures and they are opening in "Vista picture editing"
The first way to overcome this is by opening the desired program first (in this case canon's photo editor) and then choose open and find the desired photos.
The other way is to set the file type association in vista so that RAW programs open with the canon program see below for step by step:
1. Click Start
2. Click default programs on the black bar
3. Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program
4. Find the file types you want to open automatically in your canon editing program (RAW .jpg etc)
5. Click once at the top of the page click change program
6. A new window will open, if it does not list the correct program click browse at the bottom of the window and find your editor in it's folder.
7. Select the desired program by double clicking
8. Click OK
9. Click close
10. Test the new file association by double clicking a RAW file or one of the other file types and see if it loads into the correct program.

The final (and this is simply my plug for open source programs) solution would be to try something like GIMP (it is a photo editing suite developed under linux but adapted for windows) you can search for it on google.

If you are having trouble with any of these steps please post a comment and I will try and add some clarification.
Hope this helps

DPI resolution

menu- camera set up- picture quality- try to locate picture size using menu button switch. RAW file is the best but it eats too much memory.
