Question about Toshiba Satellite A75-S226 Notebook

Reinstalled XP after putting in new HD. Delay issues

My girlfriend had a 2005 A75-S226 Toshiba Laptop that didnt have a Hard drive and the power button was broken as well as a few keys on the keypad. i bought a new keypad and installed it as well as taking out the power button so can power it one with a small metal screwdriver. I took the comp apart and did all that and put it back together and installed the new hard drive and reinstalled windows xp with the disk that came with it. It installed fine but when i move the mouse it will move some then stop and wont move. then move again and stop but wont move. when it stops i can move the highlighted item with the arrow keys but nothing from the mouse or keypad. then when the mouse works decent and doesnt stop; i click something and there is a few second (5-10 sec) delay before the comp actually clicks it. I dont see why it would do all this with a fresh HD and fresh OS. any help would be appreciated. Ive tried putting in a USB mouse in multiple ports and still does it. Also restarting comp a couple times. tried updating mouse driver but its up to date

her ex husband took the old HDD so i dont know what it was. I bought the HDD at bestbuy. they told me it was what i needed. Im not sure what i did but it was running great for a while and then when i installed a bunch of updates from toshibas website for certain drivers and rebooted it started doing it again. So i restored to a previous point and now im back to square one. the mouse moves now fine but now it has serious delay when i click on things. its like my CPU is being held up by something

ok. here's where i stand. the computer now has CPU spikes to where it will freeze for 8 seconds then there is a few seconds where i can do what i need before it freezes again. i reformated again with the restore disk that came with it. thinking maybe it had something to do with the new HDD i did a chkdsk c: /f in dos to do it on boot. that didnt find any errors. i did chkdsk which found errors and couldnt continue in read-only mode. when it got done doing all that when it restarted i got the error at windows boot up saying that it couldnt log in as the user profile and had to log in under a default. and it still has the lag/freeze problems. i pulled out the HDD and put back in and am gonna reformat again. to see if gets rid of errors. its a pentium 4 with hyperthreading so i dont know if that has any effect but i tried running it with HT off and it still did it. Ive been messing with this for 6 hrs now and it's been getting worse over that time since when it was working fine few like 20 mins. Its very frustrating...

Is the HDD same as the previous one? I mean the specs. These laptops are very HW specific while desktops are free of any such problems. Moreover, Did you reboot the laptop before and after reinstalling the mouse drivers? please follow the procedure in the link below:

Now that you are back to square one, download the drivers from Toshiba site and then from Control Panel->System->HW->Device manager remove the drivers that are troubling you. And then reboot the laptop. Now Install the new downloaded drivers one by one and reboot after each install.

Toshiba satellite a15-s129 boots then lots of error screens show.

If you are referring to drive read errors when you attempt to open ANYTHING ("please restart program").. i installed a newer version of xp, windows7, and everything works fine now. this was not my laptop, so naturally i didnt care about wiping the HD. but the reason i was given this laptop was most likely the same problem you have, and now i have a brand new laptop, heh.

Various laptop mount hard drives differently.
Some are mounted on the bottom of the laptop behind a screwed panel and may be mounted in a cage and may have adapter that fit on the hard drive connector pins.
Other hard drives are fitted on the edges of the LH side or RH side of the laptop behing a plastic panel and this panel is held in place by a screw. Again the hard drive may be mounted in a cage and may have an adapter connector on the hard drive connector pins.
If you are not sure goto the Toshiba WEB site to download the user manual or service manual for your model laptop.

A75 s226 wont boot

If it says that the hard drive is not detected, then most probably its a busted hard drive. I doubt it's a motherboard issue since it was able to tell you that it can't find a hard drive. Plus the fact that there are spinning noises which can only come from either the hard drive or the fans.

Windows dont come up.

I had this happen to me before with an IBM laptop. I bought a new hard drive, reinstalled a fresh OS, and had no more problems after that. I also went right to ibm website and did all the updates, as well as all the microsoft updates. So my same problem as your ended up being a bad hard drive. maybe check into that?.
