If this is a reference to an eMachines T1100 desktop computer, it doesn't have one according to eMachines Support,

http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T%20Series&model=T1100

Comes with a Fax modem,
Modem: 56K ITU v.92-ready, PCI internal Fax/Modem

It's a Dial-Up modem, or can be used for Dial-Up, and Fax.
(Phone line plugs directly into the Dial-Up modem)

You need an Ethernet adapter card, that plugs into a PCI slot.

This is an example of an Ethernet adapter card, (That plugs into a PCI slot)

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=686143&CatId=200

This is information about Motherboards from Wikipedia. I gave this link to show you an average motherboard, and clarification on what a PCI slot looks like, in case you are not aware,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motherboard

I would like you to left-click on the photo of the motherboard, to the top right of the page. This will enlarge the photo. [ You can also click again to further enlarge.

Towards the top right of the motherboard photo are two PCI slots. They are horizontal in the photo, and White in color.
You open the computer case, and remove the Fax/Modem adapter card. Then the Ethernet card is installed in it's place.

There are instructions that come with the Ethernet card.
If you have never opened a computer before, I would wish you to post. (Post in a Comment)
Not only does the computer have to be unplugged from power before you start, you should also follow some easy anti-static guidelines.

[Your body carries static electricity. Static will fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate computer hardware components inside a computer. You probably won't see it, or feel it.

Work on a table. {Not directly on a carpet floor, a bed, or a couch. Very high areas of Static}
After you open the computer case, (Computer unplugged from power), TOUCH the metal frame of the case.
Should you get up, walk away, then return in the middle of working on your computer, upon your return touch the metal frame again]

The cable company cable plugs into their provided modem. The power adapter cable is plugged into the modem, and the power adapter into the surge protector.

An Ethernet cable is then used. One end is plugged into the cable company modem, the other end into the Ethernet adapter card that you installed into the computer.

You may, or may not, have to have the cable companies tech come out, and set up your internet connection on your computer. Comes in, goes to the computer, and sets the connection up.

Need guidance in installing the Ethernet adapter card, I'm your man. Just post in a Comment.

SOURCE: cant get on the internet

The longer the cable, the slower the connection.

It should work with the cable as it is not "too" long.

I would try turning the modem and router off for one minute and then turning back on.

We have comcast internet and we were woundering if we can hook up the wii to the comcast internet modem through a usb cable if so we hooked it up and we dont know how to get the internet on the wii.

No you can not directly connect using the usb connection.

You need to connect either wireless through a router or you need a wii LAN adapter to connect with the Ethernet cord.

Good Luck....

I have a netopia wireless router, I've just had comcast install the internet however I would like to install the router. the modem to my computer accommodate only one ehternet cable at a time and it...

You can connect your computer to Internet if you have a Wi-Fi card in the computer. You need to connect the modem ethernet cable to the netopia wireless router and then connect to internet through wireless connection. First task is to configure wireless network connectivity on your netopia router connecting the 1st ethernet port to your pc lan card port, you will need the netopia instruction manual for this. The wireless configuration will be through a browser window(like internet explorer/mozilla firefox). This may take roughly 20 -30 minutes.

I have comcast cable net and D-link WBR 1310

Hi, forget about the USB connection since you wanted to use a router for your wireless connection. Contact Comcast asnd make sure they assist you in making your computer connect to the Internet using the ethernet connection because you are going to use the ethernet connection for the modem-router connection. Once your computer is online with the ethernet connection, you can connect your Dlink router to the modem and configure it for Internet connection. There will be more steps before you can use the wireless connection. Just make sure you can get online with ethernet connection first.

Internet connection problems

Sorry but that seems to be a pretty convoluted explanation. Here is how it should go.
Vonage unit connected to phone line(s) and cable modem. Linksys connected to Vonage box. Computers connected to Linksys.
Ethernet has a length limitation of about 300 feet before you need another switch (hub) or a repeater. Does your wire length exceed this?

A router is basically a mini-computer that splits up one internet connections to 4 (or whatever # of ports you have).

Basic Connections to a router:
A Router requires a internet connections, so your broadband modem must connect to the WAN port (theres only one) of the router DIRECTLY. Then Ethernet cables go from the router to the computers on the LAN ports. Don't do something weird like connecting your internet to your computer then your computer to the routers WAN port, it'll most likely mess up.

Once you have connected your router like this, it should work.

If your modem only has a usb port, I have no idea how to make that work out. Sorry. Try getting a new modem from your ISP, or check if your modem does have a ethernet port, if it does just connnect that to the routers wan port.

Also computers should not interconnect with each other with use of a router. Thats what the router is for. Everything gets connected and split up at the router, nothing connects to anything else but the router, basically.

Connecting to internet

Ok, cable (coax) comes in from wall and attaches to modem. Ethernet cable goes from modem to WAN Port of router. You may have to reboot both devices to ensure that your modem (internet service provider) assigns IP address to your router. If PC is close enough, attach new ethernet cable from one of the 4 ports on your router down to your PC's ethernet adapter. (where your modem used to plug into). Router will now assign an IP address to your PC and you should be able to access the www.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
