The problem can get to the point where the game won't even load. What is happening is there is a little white plastic gear with 2 teeth that screws onto the laser. Those teeth ride into the grooves on the worm gear motor shaft. As the shaft turns the little laser gear moves the laser back and forth. After time those little teeth that are suppose to be flat wear a tiny bit and have troughs wore in them. This allows it to slip off the worm gear shaft causing the clicking noise. you simply remove it and use white lithium grease and replace it and it will work like a new one. I hope this helps!
spindle motor went bad it sounds like. Open up the ps2 and inside of there, you'll see a ribbon for the drive, take it off of the board and then reseat it.
Now put the top back on and try the drive again. If it still doesn't spin then the drive will need to be replaced.
does it stop working?or stopped vibrating?if the vibration stopped then wire connecting to the rotating motor is detached this is the common problem with dual shock because of constant vibration.Solution is to open the controller and connect the loose wire, dust is also a big factor if buttons are already not responding so try also to remove accumulated dust on the button touch board.
i think i have a sali..salute...anser(i can not typ today srry) the this sorta hapend to me but i had anuther ps2 so i put the broken 1 away for a wile and then a bout a month later it started working again so its working to hard u need to stop useing your ps2 and let it cool down not
If your spindle has stopped spinning, it will most likely be 1 of 2 problems. Either your spindle motor has burnt up, or even though it is very unlike, a lead wire that supplies the power to the spindle has became disconnected. Now, if the case it the burnt up spindle motor, there are hundreds of motors for every kind of PS on, of course, E-Bay. If the problem is for some reason, a soldered wire has broken from the motor. It is very simple to re-attach the lead with a quick touch from a soldering iron. I hope this has helped.
when the motor of the PS2 gets older it keeps working slower. the only thing you can do is to exchange it or take to best buy or your local store and they will change it for you.
Sony PS2 games come is 3 or 4 different formats. Some of the formats require the Disc to spin at near the limits of the spindle drive motor. I have not run the Guitar hero game, so I am not sure which format it is. I know that the Discs with Blue colored media need to run at a very fast speed, and this gives Some PS2 consoles trouble when they have some lint, string, or Animal hair wrapped up in the spindle motor. Yes, it is a common problem. You have to open the PS2 and look under the motor that turns the disc to see if you have an obstruction.
