Updating PS3 .PUP file

I downloaded the update in to a flash drive but my PS3 says theres nothing to download on it. I suspect tis a problem reading the file extension (.pup) because my PC can't open it either. What am I missing. They won't help me fix the disc error 800010514 until my system has the latest update.

Please help

I am trying to download an update for PS3 via my PC using a jumpdrive. My computer keeps giving me an error message that the file cannot be opened because it cannot be found and/or the path is incorrect. Microsoft page says this is due to not being able to read the .pup extension but I dont know what to do about that...

  • Anonymous Mar 04, 2009

I have the same problem. When I downloaed the PS 3 System Update file to a pendrive on my PC, it showed it as a PUP file. When I tried to download it from the Pen drive to the PS 3 Console, it showed that there was no software or pendrive.

Every time its gets to 62% is says an error with (8002F997) ive tired the method by swiching the media sever to disable but that didnt work. what eles do i do

Error code "8002F997" means your PS3 is having issues updating your system software directly via internet. As a workaround you'll use external storage media, such as a USB thumb drive, to transfer the software to your PS3

1. Requirements

- A USB cable (not necessary if using a USB thumb drive)
- A PC with Internet access
- Storage media or a USB Mass Storage device such as a USB flash drive

2. Downloading and saving the software

- Plug in your USB drive to your computer, and create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data. Create a folder named "PS3" on the storage media/USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named "UPDATE".

- Download the update data from

http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/us/2011_0310_91ee193a2fa921a6fce780fc40236e3b/PS3UPDAT.PUP

and save it in the "UPDATE" folder.

Note:

Be sure to save the update data as noted below. If the data is not saved in the correct way, the PS3 will not recognize the update data. The folder name must be in all uppercase letters.

-> Location: Save in the "PS3" folder > "UPDATE" folder
-> File name: Save as file name "PS3UPDAT.PUP".

3. Updating the PS3 software

Note:

Do not turn off the PS3, or remove the USB drive, during the software update!

- Insert the USB drive/storage media into the PS3
- On your PS3, from Home Menu (second icon from the left) -> System Update ->Select [Update via Storage Media].

The system automatically searches for and finds the update data saved on the storage media or USB device.

Cant upgrade my ps3

I update my Playstation I update from a memory card reader and have never had a problem. Only 2 times it wasn't recognized, but that's because I wasn't doing it right. I went back to the library next night and did it again and it worked. It sounds like you did it correct if the URL was PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP. I used a Sony pro duo card insert into my reader, then when I get home I pull out the card, put it in it's Standard Size Memory Stick Pro adapter and slide it into my card slot on my PS3 and it worked fine, no problems. When there was a problem, it was because I wasn't entering the folder names correctly. Just remember to use all upper case letters and do in this order PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP. Make sure to save the file name in the update folder. I've never update via computer. There's not suppose to be the word folder after UPDATE or PS3UPDAT.PUP. The URL should read like this in your address bar: PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP hope this helps John

Format a flash memory to FAT 32. go to playstation website, download the latest update version (under system) on a flash memory. arrange folders like this:
PS3-->UPDATE-->PS3UPDAT.PUP
hook the flash memory to the PS3 usb. go to system update--> use update from the other option rather than internet.
and you good to go!

you may just have to update the HDD if you removed it it normally makes you update it, just jump on the net type in latest ps3 update copy it to a flash drive then you will have to look up how to update a ps3 with external drive, ive done it before its a bit fiddly cos you have to put the update download in specific files on the flash drive and they have to have specific file names for the ps3 to be able to read from the flash drive

PS3 stuck in demonstration mode 2.80

Visit the Playstation3 website and download the lastest version onto a flash drive. Making sure you dont have any other software/files on the flash drive.

Create a folder on the flash drive in which to save the update data.
Using a PC, create a folder named “PS3” on the flash drive or USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named “UPDATE”.
Install the playstation update into that folder. "PS3UPDAT.PUP"
Your console SHOULD now reconise the update.
If nothing changes restore the playstation fully to its default status.
