Question about Garden

Open Question

Have an old BCS tiller model 201, must be from the 80's. The transmission (clutch?) just slips when it meets light resistance. It sounds like gears slipping over each other. It is probably the sound it should make when it meets serious resistance. Is there an adjustment or other fix?

SOURCE: Motor runs but blade does not move. sounds like

It sounds like the spocket gear is stripped, the smaller gear drive may be stripped also. You will need to replace these parts. You can order them online at www.masterparts.net. The part should be listed in your owner's manual. If you do not have an owner's manual you can give your model number and I can try to find a copy for you. They also may have a parts break down Master Parts website. I hope this helps you!

Adjust the clutch and see if it helps. Find the cable adjuster in the clutch cable and move the rubber boot up or down. Loosen the lock nut and turn the cable adjuster in to get as much slack in the cable as possible. Then, take the derby cover off. In the middle of the clutch is the clutch adjuster. Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjuster screw inwards until you feel a resistance. Do not force the screw or you'll bust your inner clutch hub. Back the screw off and turn it in several times to get the feel of it. Turn it in until you feel the resistance and then back off 1/2 turn. Tighten the lock nut and replace the derby cover. Then go back to the cable adjuster and turn the adjuster barrel outwards until you have about an 1/8 inch of freeplay. Tighten the lock nut and replace the rubber boot. See if that will help your problem. The gears cannot slip as your transmission is a constant mesh type design.

Good Luck

Honda tiller starts, but blades won't move. Oil is fine, no weird smells.

If this is fg100 model could be worn out clutch or broken parts in transmission.

Put tiller in till gear, goes fine for 30 sec and jump out of gear. tine stop. How do i fix it

Try adjusting the linkage or the shifter cable. If its too tight that will happen. I have almost the same one you do. Look at your manual and check out the blow up diagram. there is a way to adjust most models. If not you may need to replace the cable. But...before you do that make sure your cable isn't meeting with resistance somewhere causing it to be too tight.
