Windows 7 does not allow an upgrade from Windows XP. You would have to upgrade to Vista first and then on to 7. Also, it depends on which Vista you have that will determine which Windows 7 you can upgrade to. If you have Vista Home basic for instance, you cannot upgrade to Windows 7 Premium or professional. It is really screwed up. You can however do a clean install but you will lose all your old files unless you back them up on an external drive before running the new OS.

How to reinstall windows xp thinkpad x41

How to Reload Windows XP Without Removing Files Deleting system files, modifying the registry and installing incompatible drivers to Windows XP can damage the integrity of the operating system, rendering it inoperable. Virus infections are often responsible for making the aforementioned changes to a system, but employees who have administrative access to the workstation can make deleterious modifications to the OS as well. Reinstalling Windows XP can repair the OS, but if work-related files are stored to the system partition, all of the data will be erased during the installation process. To reload Windows XP without losing files, you can perform an in-place upgrade, also known as a repair installation.

Step 1
Insert the Windows XP CD into the optical drive and then press "Ctrl-Alt-Del" to restart the computer. Step 2Press any key when prompted to load the contents of the disc. Press "Enter" on the Welcome to Setup screen.
Step 3 Read the license agreement, pressing "PgDn" to scroll down the page. Press "F8" to agree to the terms. The CD will search for previous installations of Windows XP. Step 4
Press "R" to repair the selected operating system. The disc will begin reinstalling the operating system to the hard drive without affecting personal files. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the repair installation. Step 5
Log in to Windows XP and sign on to the Internet when installation completes. Click "Start," "All Programs" and then "Windows Update." Step 6
Click "Scan for Updates" to search for applicable service packs and hotfixes to reinstall to the OS. Step 7
Click "Install Now" to bring the in-place upgrade up-to-date.
Things Needed
  • Windows XP CD

Tip
  • Make sure you have your Windows XP product key (found on the CD cover or on the computer case) available prior to reinstallation.

Warnings
  • If possible, back up your files previous to the installation in case something goes awry during the process.
  • You will need to reinstall all non-native programs and removable devices after performing an in-place upgrade.

How to get the aeroglass look on none WDDM supported graphics card

Many people have upgraded their computer operating systems from XP to Vista or Windows 7 but their graphics cards don't support the aeroglass effect.
This is because the graphics cards don't support the WDDM drivers so the look of the operating system just looks basic.

There are a couple of little applications which can make the operating system look like it has the aeroglass effect even though its quite basic. Even though the look is quite basic it still looks good enough to have a desirable effect.

If you have seen Windows 7 or Vista which has the aeroglass effect enabled then you will have noticed that you can see through the borders of the windows and taskbar itself.

To achive these looks there are two little applications which you have to download and install.

The first one is True Transparency. This will make the borders of windows transparent.

Download True Transparency from here and install it >>>>>>>>>

http://truetransparency.en.softonic.com/

Take a look at the screenshot below to see how it looks. I'm running this application myself on my laptop with Windows 7 installed.
cbd4da7.png

As you can see the windows borders are transparent. To use and change the look click on the notification area and right click on the True Transparency icon like in the picture below.
01766d5.png

Next we have to work on the taskbar. We are fairly limited with what we can do here but we can still have the transparent effect even though we can't change the colour.

What we need to achive this effect is an application called Tweakwindow.

Download and install Tweakwindow from the link below >>>>>>>

http://www.shareup.com/TweakWindow-download-20010.html

To configure Tweakwindow you will find the application in the nitification area just like with True Transparency.

With these little applications you can have the aeroglass effect without having the need to upgrade your graphics cards of install memory hungry applications like WindowBlinds.
WindowBlinds does work with Vista and 7 but tends to slow down the PC dramatically causing application hangs and system freezes.

Both True Transparency and Tweakwindows works on XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Until a registry hack becomes available to force aeroglass on none WDDM graphics cards we are stuck with using these little applications.

When a registry hack becomes available I will update this tip.

Happy computing.

Automatically Slipstream Windows XP SP3 plus Hotfixes usign scripts

Ross Smith has one of best methods available to create your self a slipstreamed Windows XP with SP3 installed and all the critical hotfixes, the only problem is that he stopped developing it in April 2009 so the list is about 40 hotfixes short, network installation SP3 version HERE

smithi's great script http://smithii.com/slipstream_xpsp3 please will you update it Ross ?

I also like using RVM Integrator v1.6.7 OR Autostreamer v1.0.30 to slipstream SP3 first to a folder containing the Windows XP SP2 I386 files this will give you a installation folder with all the SP3 files integrated.

Paul Thurrott's WinSupersite gives you a manual method if you prefer tutorial with screendumps HERE also how to exrtract the microsoft image file so that you can create your own bootable CD

Then download the Hotfixes EF2 list for use with using IDM from my public skydrive HERE is my exported list OR if you prefer use Windows Update Downloader and download one of the update lists, you must double click the ULZ file to install it into the interface, update lists HERE

N.B>these 2 won't slipstream, but they can be run after windows is installed:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/7/1/971f55c8-d512-494f-9c5e-7cc3f9b190ee/msxml4-KB954430-enu.exe

There are other alternatives like hfslip (similiar to smithi's script) and nLite + WinUpdateDownloader I have had limited success with both of them however there are alot of Program Addons available for nLite like WMP11 and IE8 and a whole list from MSFN available HERE

How to installation windows xp in hindi lenguage with picture

  1. Step 1 Open Windows Update (located in the Windows XP Control Panel), and see if SP2 is on the list of available updates. If you don't have Windows Update installed or turned on, visit the Windows Update website in order to get the latest Windows Update software.
  2. Step 2 Select the Windows XP SP2 item from the list of available updates, and click the "Install" button. Windows Update will begin downloading Service Pack 2 (a process that may take up to 20 minutes or longer, depending on how fast your Internet connectionmag-glass_10x10.gif is), and will then launch the installation program once downloading is complete.
  3. Step 3 Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the Windows XP Service Pack 2 installation. You will be asked to accept the terms of the licensing agreement before the actual installation takes place. Installation may take up to 20 or 30 minutes, after which you will be required to reboot your computer in order for the changes to the operating system to take effect.
  4. Step 4 Should you have problems installing XP Service Pack 2 through Windows Update, download the stand-alone executable from Microsoft in order to install the software update manually. The Service Pack executable is designed to make it easier for IT professionals to update multiple computers without having to download the Service Pack onto each one. Run the installer program once you've finished downloading it, and follow the on-screen instructions as mentioned above.
