Goto functions disabled on Raymarine E80 (classic) chartplotter

I have a Raymarine E80 chartplotter, an S1 autopilot with an 8002 control head, a Raymarine 2kw radar scanner. Also connected to the sysem are a Raymarine Lifetag man overboard alarm, an S100 remote controller for the autopilot, an Icom AIS receiver, and various B&G Network instruments. At the beginning of an overnight passage the goto functions worked properly. I was able to set a waypoint and steer to it automatically as well as follow a route. During the night the goto functions ceased working. I can enter waypoints or build routes, but I cannot follow them. There does not seem to be an MOB point active, and there is no lead line from the ship icon to any waypoint. All other functions seem to perform normally. Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause or solution to this problem?

I don't see how it can be the antenna, position data is received normally. New waypoints can be identified and placed on the chart. and i can determine course and distance to waypoints from the boat by placing the cursor over the waypont as it is displayed on the chartplotter. All functions other than goto and route follow are working. When i press the goto softkey, the new softkeys are grayed out, indicaing that they are not availale.

The settings reset fixed the problem. Thank you. Now to reenter the custom configurations!

" During the night the goto functions ceased working" (sic) Have you "Reset" this unit. This indeed sounds like a software problem, with either the MAPS, themselves, Or, the units Operating System & I wonder if a return to a reset state may not clear this "Glitch" ? Now if this doesn't clear it, then all one can really do, is reinstall the operating system, from either a CD/DVD or from the manufacturers website.

I have been trying to avoid a reset unless I am pretty sure it will clear the problem, as that will reverse a considerable amount of work in customizing the display. I don't believe I have the capability of saving my work. However, I seem to have run out of other options. I will try the reset.

This seam to be a issue of antenna..it actually works but it do not receive any information to take a guide line and perform the actions..see maybe there are physical damages or something is obstructing ..the function ..
and cause it is such a vital function ...try what I sugested and ask for a second opinion if it doesn't seam to be this...just refuse my answer or ..vote under maximum..to get another opinion ...But it is pretty obvious that the issue is the communication with the satellite ..check the power on devices..also ...I mean external ones..

I was under the impression that the functions are available but the points are not visible ..in this case is clear a issue from the software ..check under tools and see if it can be enabled..cause when a function is not highlighted its actually like you said disabled or not available ..also you can check the drivers for devices ..cause if a driver for a device used in a function is missing than the function will not be available ..so if you use them under a computer platform ..check on the device manager and see if any of the devices are in yellow with a ask sign ,,,this indicates a lack of drivers ..If you have any software related you can install (run them ) again ...when reinstalled all programs default themselves and usually all functions are restored..

You can check it in 2 places:

1) the back of the control head
2) the motor itself. The wire plugs into the motor or the shaft coming off the wheel portion.

You should have approx. 12 VDC coming from the control head to the motor.

I would recommend upgrading the E80 and the DSM to the newest software levels:

E80 - 5.52
DSM - 4.12.

You can download the software off raymarine.com and load them onto different compact flash cards. Both softwares are upgraded through the E80 display.

Sounds like it is reacting too quickly. It is a good idea to do the system calibration again followed by the autolearn and see if that helps. Start with that.

Raymarine st8002 wired to furuno

The st8002 is not compatble with rs232 data. You need to supply it with nmea 0183 data. You will need to wire it to the "NMEA port IN" on the pilot to NMEA out on your Furuno and turn on the mnea sentances "out" on your Furuno. You will need to turn on at least the following sentances GGA GLL RMB RMC.Hope that helps.

Raymarine ST6002 Smartpilot Alarm Message ''Seatalk Fail 2''

Very possible that the Wind instrument has a defective Seatalk interface - it happened to me. You could try your Wind in another boat, just connecting it temporarily to the Seatalk Bus - if it jams those it is the problem

Your autopilot should have a separate Course Computer such as the 100, 400, S1... somewhere. Some models have two SeaTalk busses, and the recommended installation is to use one bus for the 6002 control head alone, and the other bus for instruments etc, so a SeaTalk fail on the instrument bus will not disable he Autopilot. I retired my boat this way (after the dealer took the one-bus shortcut).

The real solution is to have the Wind instrument fixed. The cheapest work-around is to cut the yellow SeaTalk wire between the 6002 and the Wind, so that the Wind instrument gets power but does not affect the data bus. That should let the AP and Wind each work normally and independently (no Wind-angle mode on the AP).

Raymarine have a forum you should join for more info and help.

Sea talk failure

Remove all wiring from 4000 head, hook up only 12V, if seatalk fail continues, it is the head. if seatalk fail goes away, hook in instruments one by one until the bad head is found. Seatalk is 12V red, Ground Screen(bare wire) and Data yellow (pulsing voltage). good luck 847-746-0100 John Barry
