If the engine dies when you try to speed it up chances are your muffler is the problem. Any equipment that uses a gas/oil will eventually have a stopped up muffler due to carbon buildup. This restricts the air flow and the engine won't run or open up. First take the muffler off and see if you can start and adjust the carb with it off. Turn both the air and the gas adjustment screws all the way in, then back them both out one and a quarter turns. Start from there.
Unstop the muffler by throwing it in an open fire for 10 to 15 mins or using a torch to burn the carbon out. There is a screen in the muffler that I would toss out (unless you live in California) for the only purpose it serves is catching carbon. Let the muffler cool on its own, don't cool with water or you will warp it and it won't seal right. Also while the muffler is off check the muffler port and scrape off any buildup there with a knife. Hope this helps.

As long as the fuel lines are not cracked or broken, then you will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb. cleaner. Use a Den Tek brush, (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000V5MQ7Y/ref=asc_df_B000V5MQ7Y820727?smid=AKZ54EXMVZHXW&tag=dealt5228-20&linkCode=asn), to clean the small portals in the carb. Make sure the small screen in the carb. is free of debris. Reassemble and start. Let me know if you need further assistance.
