Problems with my pool heater

I`m a new pool owner, I hired a company to open my pool but they did not take care of my heater. When I tried to light the pilot it did not light at all. I tried to light it manuallybut it is hiden and I can not reach it. Also seems to miss a wire from the lighter (red button) and from the top of the box from which the pipe for the burners and the pilot comes out. Any sugestions? thanks, Andres.

If this is electronic ignition, I suspect your glow plug is in need of replacement. You might get it lit manually ... but you would have to be thre every time it wanted to come on to relight it IF YOU CAN REACH IT. If this has a pilot ... your thermocouple may be malfunctioning or there may be dirt in the jet.

I would call the company back and ask them to take another look. If they dont show ... there are probably other such in your community.

Sounds like you have a Millivolt heater and the wire connecting the ignitor to the back of the red button is disconnected. It should be a short red wire that plugs into the back of the red button. If this is disconnected, you will not be getting a spark when you press the red button. Try that first.

I recently bought a house with a 7,500 gal pool that has a Jandy Pool Heater. I had a pool guy come out and somewhat show me the ropes of the basics, who to vacuum, clean it, backwash, ect...The previous...

The pool guy probably turned off the gas valve.

You are right, the book has an old number but if you you call the Jandy technical support at 800-822-7933 they should be able to help you figure this issue out. By studying this yourself you will be better able to handle future issues yourself but feel free to ask me for more information.

I hope this helps.

I am replacing my old 400,000 btu natural gas pool heater with a Hayward 250FDN, which will be adequate because I plan only to heat the spa, not the whole in-ground pool. My question is how much of the...

This should be an easy installation. PVC is easy to install as stated above. Electrical, just follow the directions in the installation manual. As far as the gas line goes, you CAN use a flex line in place of the black gas piping for the 2 feet BUT make sure it is adequate for the amouont of BTUs you will be running. ALL flex-gas pipe has a rating on the side of that will indicate the maximum amount of BTUs that can run through the pipe. The highest rated flex Ive seen @ 2 feet is for 297,000 BTUs. You should be fine at 250000. Chances are the local hardware store will not have this good flex pipe though. You will have to goto a local HVAC store to aquire it.

My heater says 'low' and will not heat the pool. What does this mean?

"LO" usually means that the temperature of the pool is below 58 degrees. The thermostat usually will not read below this of "HI" at above 114 degrees.
This is the link for the owners manual:
But, "LO" sometimes appears if you do not have proper water flow through the heater as well. We have seen several cases where this appeared if the water flow was inadequate and the pressure switch would not allow the heater to activate.
First think you should do is follow the simple troubleshooting tips in the owners manual. If you still have an issue with the heater not working, you may need to hire a local service station. Your hi limits, pressure switch, igniter or other may need to be replaced.

Master temp EU 4 error. I think it is EO 4 and led is burnt. Any suggestions?

Thank you for posting your question here on

I am not aware nor could I find EO4...try the owner's manual:

Page 38 on has your troubleshooting directions. Please be careful. If you are not familiar with testing these items it would be in your best interests to hire a pool service pro. Depending on the installation you could have 230V in the heater and one false move could ground the unit and cause extensive damage.

Pool heater sparks but does not light up

coud be several things, Do you have Gas and is gas toruned on. Is valve on. The Pilot could be dirty and need cleaned. $350+ sounds reallly pricy for a pilot assembly. Call your Gas Company and get an Estimate and a Qualifed Service tech. You may try turning Off the Power to the Heater Unit and turning it back on , and then trying to turn on heater again, So times after several atemps the valve will lock out and the power needs reset on Propane units.

If the valve "in the heater" you are talking about is the main gas valve, check the regulator, which should be before the main gas valve.

If the line is very far from the meter and the gas repair person didn't bleed the line to your heater I would suspect you have air in the line that needs bled off where the gas can reach the pilot. It sounds like the auto lighter is responding correctly but times out and shuts down until its siginaled to try again. They usually are more than helpful in making sure all pilot lights are lite in a situation as this. I would think a phone call to them might be the solution. That or bleed it yourself if your comfortable doing so. The line closest to the manifold needs cracked open slightly until you smell gas then tighten it. Allow five minuites for fumes to vent then turn heater on. Just be careful that there is nothing close by that could ignite the gas. You may wan't to check local codes to make sure you are allowed to carry out this operation or if you have to hire a liscensed plummer.

My glow bouy won't hold a charge.

According to the owner's manual that I have for this swimming pool light (troubleshooting section), a blinking red light is definately a charging issue. The manual recommends that you unplug and replug in the light several times. If the flashing continues, they recommend that the batteries need to be replaced. Unfortunately, you cannot replace the batteries yourself. They specifically state that you cannot open the housing yourself. If you did, you would risk electrocuting yourself AND void any warranties that you have. You will have to take it into the retailer that you got it from or an autorized pool supply/repair shop or replace the whole light.
