Question about Echo Garden

1 Answer

I have three SRM 230 string trimmers. The oldest (grey housing) is the most powerful. Two years ago I purchased a new one (orange housing) and this year I bought another one (orange housing). The later two had adequate power under a load for about the first twenty five hours and then began loosing it. I always use Echo brand oil for my gas mix. I have replaced the air filter, spark plug, and fuel filter but still no power under a load. I have inspected the spark arrester and it is clean. Have the makers of Echo changed something in design recently? Any ideas as to what is happening?

The only thing that came in my mind for you to check is from the fact that they had power at first ..and the power was lost after a few hours of using ...them ...and the fact that the only way that you can feel the lack of power is when you actually have them in load..It is something wrong with the clutch ...and the only thing that can be is that it is slipping ...To confirm this ...it is enough if the motor seams to accelerate itself when forced but no grip actually feels to be on ..but kinda moan sound when in load..
For this you will have to change the disks for the clutch ..or to see if they have adjust screws on the clutch lid..
to explain a little ..the system for the clutch is on disks..that slide when engaged and grip on each other when released..and if those disks ..are not well adjusted( or they are well-worn) ..and slip on each other all the time they will not transfer the power from the motor to the gear box..and this is the issue with the power loss..
So ...Im not sure of the system for this model ..but usually they have some screws on the lid that cover the dicks .and once tide ..those screws will adjust the space between the disks that move with the motor ..and the ones that engage the gear box..and this way they will not slip on each other once the clutch released..Be ware not to do it too much cause in this case..they will be in gear all the time ..
If they have not such system (can be the case and the difference between the 2 models and the actual reason for the second model to act like this..) and only have some kinda sping hooked on the lid.. to keep the disks together ..than you will have to find a way to tide them together ..by adding one more pare of disks.....
Im suggesting this cause I found that problem in some model of motorcycle.and it was terrible ..they didnt have adjustable lid.for the clutch ..and you had to change the clutch disk every few month..
I hope this will help ..cause I can not see any other reason for the lack of power..if this wasn't a characteristic of them from the start..

Echo weedeater srm 230 oi l for houseing what

See section 24 of your manual here. It has the information you want for lubing the flexible drive shaft and the gear-drive housing (if your unit is so equipped). This is a manual for the SRM230S model.

Hi I have an ECHO SRM 225 trimmer. I received no manual when I bought it. I do not know how to spool a new string

Usually string trimmers come with line already in it. If there is no line in it take the head apart. how you do this is as you push down on the bump as you hold the bottom part of head and twist the head should come apart..to sting the trimmer some are different some you have to cut the string and wrap two strings two different ways some you use one long piece and you wrap it.... you will noticed on the head there will be little indicators that tell you which way to wrap the string.. if you have any questions please let me know..

Echo SRM 200 series trimmer is great. I noticed though this summer once I reel in the new string, a short time of trimming later, only 1 side of the string appears. When I open up the reel, the string is...

For your machine, make sure you are using the Manufacturer's recommended trimmer line. For your model, they recommend using Echo brand .080" Cross Fire diameter line. You also need to insure that when you load the spool with the line, that it is loaded (in the right direction) so it can feed properly.

Echo trimmer srm-230 pull string to start trimmer is stuck. I try pulling on it and it only comes out about an inch.

The pull string is probably tangled up. There are usually vents which enable you to see into the machines pull string assembly. Loosen the fasteners and pull off the cover exposing the pull string. You can unwind and untangle and then it should recoil perfectly. If that does not work continue to dismantle the pull string assembly because you probably have a broken starter pawl which is located on the back of the pull string assembly.

Don't know how to install new string on Echo SRM 2400

Cut two separate pieces of string, about 7 ft. each.

Stick the end of the line in the hole on the inside of spool.

Wind clockwise onto spool, putting the line that is closest to the ground on first.

Once you have winded this piece on, lock the last 4 inches of line through the slits on spool.

Repeat process for second piece of line, locking the last 4 inches in slot opposite the other locked in piece.

Put the spool on the trimmer, feeding the end of lines through either hole on trimmer.

Before you push the spool all the way on, pull the strings out of the locked position.
