Question about Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse USB Receiver 1010104281

1 Answer

For 2 years years I have a Microsoft Desktop Receiver 3.1 with a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 v1.0 and a WIreless Laser Keyboard 6000 v2.0. Things were working fine until this morning when the keyboard stopped working. Thinking that the batteries were out I put in fresh ones, pressed the button on the receiver and pressed the "Connect Channel" button on the back of the keyboard. When I press the buton on top of the receiver the 3 lights go on in succession but after about 30 seconds only the "1" light in the middle remains lit. The mouse continues to work but the keyboard still is nonfunctional. I have tried a few battery changes, all fresh, with the same results. Any suggestions before I go out and purchase a new wireless keyboard/mouse set? Thanks

I tried everything as suggested. Deleted the keyboard and the mouse, rebooted, then plugged the Receiver in again and still the same...mouse works but keyboard doesn't. I even tried to reconnect the wireless keyboard with no success. Looks like it's off to Staples in the AM for a new wireless package. Any suggestions? Perhaps I'll try Logitech this time. Microsoft is very short on support this long after a purchase.

I have been using a wired keyboard, of course, to write this. Please tell me exactly what I should be deleting.

What I have been doing is right-clicking the device in Device Manager and then uninstalling it. I have done this for both the wireless mouse and also the keyboard. Then, using the wired, USB mouse and keyboard, I unplug the Wireless Receiver and then shut the computer off. Upon restarting it I plug the receiver back in. It does find both of the mice (remember, the wireless one still works) and also finds another keyboard, but only the wired one works.

thank you for your help, but unless there is more to do than I have been doing, I will try a new unit. Right now, I'm going back to the Flyers' game...they're ahead 4-0.

Goo0dness, Had this myself just last week. Fortunately I had the old keyboard and mouse and plugged it in to get access. I deleted the wireless keyboard from device manager. rebooted the machine, quickly changed the mouse and keyboard back to the wireless one and it all came back on. saved me buying a new one. Hope this works for you.

Logitech arn't that much better with after sales service. But i didn't It is rare that your wireless keyboard failedwrite that! After deinstallation and reboot was it even discovered "found new equipment"

As i suggested earlier try it with a standard keyboard first before rushing out and spending money on another wireless unit. You should also try moving the receiver to another USB port.

To make them both work together you need IntelliPoint for the mouse and IntelliType for the keyboard and system no newer than Windows 7. For explaining incompatibility issues see:

I have the same system. Mouse can be ordered, but not easily. Make sure mouse is not working.... i almost made tour same mistake. In my case, the mouse plug (from computer to wireless receiver) had become unhooked. All i could see is that mouse was communicating with wireless receiver but appeared to be frozen. If you can reset receiving channel, and see that receiver acknowledges presence of mouse, you may have my same problem. Also, if you can see that the laser light is working, mouse is probably ok, and batteries are good.

It means, your batteries are dead so need to be replaced on keyboard once you replace those the you got to turn it on and once lights comes up then you to to press wireless button for 5 seconds.
once it starts blinking then you got to press wireless button of receiver (bluetooth stack) and once it blinks then your keyboard should be detected automatically.

please post back if any thing changes and vote all answers.

Good Luck.
