I am not sure of the specific case you own and there are a multitude of ways to remove the covers. Look in the back of the tower and locate screws or hex bolts along the outer perimeter of the case. Remove those and pull the cse off. If this does not fit your particular case, you may have a case which only allows you to remove one side of the case, but it will gain you access to PCI slots inside.

Windows 7 should automatically install device drivers for the Audio, Video and Network, If you are unable to find/download a device driver that works on your computer and your computer is connected to the Internet then - 1. Remove the driver that isn't working if it was installed.
2. Set Win-7 "Windows Device Installation" to 'AUTO'
3. Windows will automatically search the internet for the driver.
4. Reboot your computer.

Need Hi-speed usb host controller

Hi,

. If you have an empty PCI bus slot on the PC motherboard, you an install a PCI card which provides you 2 or 4 USB2.0 ports which are available at around $10. There are some combo cards which provide both USB and Firewire (1394 ports).

I'm going to assume you are trying to install a Firewire adapter card.

They make Firewire adapter cards that fit a long white PCI slot, on the motherboard,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3264905&CatId=511

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_local_bus

,and a Firewire adapter card that fits a PCI-Express x1 slot,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4624358&CatId=510

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#Form_factors

[NOTE* Color of connector does NOT matter. Blue, Black, Pink with Yellow polka dots............doesn't matter ]

Do I assume you have the PCI-Express x1 version, and there is no PCI-Express x1 slot on the motherboard?

You are also having problems opening the cover, that keeps the brackets of add-on expansion cards in place.

How about posting the Model Number of the Gateway Desktop PC?
This is found on the back of the desktop computer, next to the Windows product key; or up on the side of the computer tower.

Post back in a Comment.

I will look to see how to open that cover, and what expansion slots you have on your motherboard. Then post back in a Comment.

How to install low profile firewire card

Hi

You don't say which brand and model of computer this card is for, so my answer cannot be specific to your computer.

Disconnect all cables from the computer.

Once you open the side/top and can access the motherboard, you should remove the blanking plate directly in line with one of the white PCI slots near the far left corner of the board (looking at it from the front of the computer). The blanking plates cover empty slots at the back of the computer case. Some blanking plates are held in place by a screw direct to the L-shaped lip. Others are held in place by a metal bar that is itself screwed to the exterior of the back panel of the case. Other blanking plates just clip in and out.

The card should be pressed evenly so that it slots cleanly and evenly into the PCI slot. The silver endplate faces outwards from thec interior of the back of the case, The lip of the card's silver enplate rests flat on a ledge at the interior of the back of the case, aligned with a screw hole (if the fitting is a screw type fitting) and the ****** at the bottom of the endplate fits into a small slot between the rear edge of the motherboard and the interior of the back of the case.

If there is a screwhole on the rear ledge, screw the lip to the case firmly but not too tight to the ledge.

Reconnect the cables to the computer and power it on and then install any driver software (drivers may not be necessary for the later versions of Windows),

If all is well, then test the Firewire port with a firewire cable and a camcorder.

If everything is fine, shut the computer down, disconnect the cables and close the case, before reconnecting and powering up again.

If any hardware fault arises, check the seating of the firewire card again and repeat the testing sequence.

I hope this helps.

Hello..my name is Cameron Griffith, Jacksonville Florida. My friend accidently plugged my firewire cable upside down the other day; as a result, I was forced to purchase a new one. I bought a DX-FC103...

usually this can be achieved by going into device manager and totally removing/uninstalling ALL Firewire, then reboot, without Firewire connected, after at desktop, do not plug in your Firewire device, Then install any drivers programs to do with Firewire, and then reboot NOW, plug in your Firewire device, it may ask for drivers again,if so point it to where they are, reboot at finish, next time at desktop you should be OK.

Can I add a SATA controller in a PCI slot? if so what is the storage limit? I am looking to have atleast 4TB.

Yes this can be done and the only limit on size is the drive size. The current max size for mainstream drives is around 2TB so make sure the adapter will host more then one SATA ports as at least 2 drives will be required.

Also make sure the adapter card will work with the Operating System as many are designed to be used under Windows only so if you are running Linux or BSD, there may be no support.

The other limit is the fact that the PCI is not a fast bus by current computer technology standards. If there are additional PCI devices such as network interface cards, integrated graphics, modems, soundcards, game controller adapters, USB expansion ports, Firewire expansion ports, etc.. theses devices will all be sharing the bandwidth of the PCI bus, leading to slow read and write performance of the additional storage.

If you are adding these drives to have fast storage, I suggest saving the money for a new system that makes use of current technology.

What model 2 or 3 Port FireWire PCI card (low profile) Adapter?

I could not find any product that would fit a SFF case. The best suggestion i have for you is to get the riser card adapter that will fit standard PCI cards in the Dell Optiplex 7xx models. here is the link and partial discription.

The Dual Full Height Riser from Dell™ enables you to fit two PCI card in its slots. This product has been tested and validated on Dell systems and is supported by Dell Technical Support when used with a Dell.

Downlading onto Laptop

Firewire and USB are not the same things
You will need a Firewire host adapter installed in your PC - such as Q-Tec PCI card (IEEE 1394 compatible) which comes with software / drivers

Good luck
