Question about HP Pavilion a1540n PC Desktop

1 Answer

Video on my HP Pavilion a1540n is broken

I have an HP Pavilion a1540n computer. Recently the disk had to be replaced. I took it to Fry's and they did the work and showed the computer booted up by hooking it to a monitor in their shop.

When I got it home and hooked it up, my monitor displayed vertical lines and a scratchy image -- it was impossible to even read it, although it appeared the computer is booting.

I think the video hardware is on the motherboard. Can I install a video card? and if so, how do I do that since I cannot see the screen (we already tried hooking up another monitor at home, no luck that is why I think the video hardware is at fault)

Yes you put in the video card and the default is lowest resolution and is usable without a driver, install driver then reboot and you have your new video card to set up the way you want.

Cant get the computer to work. a1540n, When I start it up the screen says no signal.

Your OS is hopelessly corrupted. Try a repair operation with your XP disk. If that does not do it then you will either have to use the recovery disks you have or deal with it and and reload the witch.

My hp a1540n will flash the blue light once but will not do ANYTHING else.

Do you still have original cds that came with your computer? The bluescreen is an indication of a serious issue with your computer that may require reisntalling everything on the computer from the original cds that came with it.

We just got an HP Pavilion A1540N from my cousin, we are trying to boot it up and it beeps and the monitor turns on but goes right to sleep.

Will need the beep sequence the amount of beeps. The beeps lets ya know that there was something wrong in POST. Most likely cause would be the video card but need the beep sequence to be certain.

My hp pavillion a1540n won't boot up. The power button is on but no boot menu on the monitor. Monitor is blank

I suggest you check the Power Supply. Bad Power Supply, weak Voltage power rail.

1) ALL the LED lights use less than 1 Watt of power.
2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts
3) A typical Processor uses 51 to 125 Watts. Depends on what Processor it is. (Older one's use less)

The HP Pavilion a1540n specifications state it uses an AMD Athlon X2 4200+, processor.

(2.0GHz. Dual Core. Built upon the Windsor Core. Uses a Socket AM2 processor socket)

HP Support > Pavilion a1540n desktop computer > Specifications,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00679533&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3184140&lang=en

Can use up to to 89 Watts,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_64_microprocessors#.22Windsor.22_.28F2_.26_F3.2C_90_nm.29

Enough power for the LED lights, and fans, but Not enough for the Processor.

No Processor operating, No computer.
No computer, No Signal to the monitor.
(Video signal)

The Power Supply used is an ATX style, and 300 Watts.

A computer only uses the power it needs, and No more.
If you install a Power Supply with more Wattage than the original, it will be fine.

My computer will not start up it tell me to insert a system disk. what is a system disk

Your computer cannot boot up because it cannot find a boot up program from any of your boot devices.
This fault could be caused by a faulty hard disk or you have a non-boot floppy disk in the floppy drive. In this case remove the floppy disk and boot up your computer again.
If the hard disk is faulty, replace the hard drive and install Windows on the new hard drive, plus the computer's device drivers and your programs to get the computer operating again.

Hp pavilion a1540n does not boot, fan turns on high, and beeps once every +/-5 seconds

Sounds like a memory fault, try removing 1 memory at a time, and restart. might help, try each memory by its self to indentify the bad card.

Have an HP pavillion A1540n. after power up, get screen with "Hard disk failure imminent' "Backup files. replace Hard drive." I'm not able to get out of this screen unless I power down the computer. I have...

Sometimes it is easier to install a new hard disk and reinstall Windows.
Then either connect the old hard drive as a slave drive (don't forget to set the jumper on this drive as a slave). The other way is to connect the old hard drive to a USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. this computer will see it as an external hard drive (provided the hard drive is still functioning).
Either way you can download and backup your files.
