I have a viewsonic vx1940w Monitor which will no longer power on. I'd like to take the back off and see if there are any loose connections but there are no visible screws. Does anyone know how to open it?

There is no exact instruction, but first thing you have to do is to remove the stand, then starting at the bottom edge of the case using thin flat blade screw driver to pry open the case up and then work your way around the case, you can also look at YOUTUBE, just search for 'how to repair LCD monitor', 'How to open LCD monitor'
Bad caps (leaking/bulging top) are common failures.

Make sure the resolution signal sent out via the DVI is a valid timing signal the monitor can recognize.

Why

The monitor may be defective or you provided an invalid timing mode to the monitor forcing it to go to sleep mode.

ViewSonic VX1940w cycles between blue and amber light for a minute before finally syncing

Hello John,

Yes, That is a very common symptom of the beginnings of capacitor failure on the power supply board. The unit uses the Darfon B092-XXX 27-D021625 power supply board which is very easy to repair. There are only 4 capacitors that need to be replaced. Here is a link to a repair kit for the Viewsonic VX1940W

WILL NOT POWER UP UNLESS THE MONITOR IS TIPPED AND MOVED AROUND. WE HAVE TWO OF THESE MONITORS AND THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IS WITH BOTH, BUT ONE HAS STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. model # VG2230WM

You should open it up and see if it has any loose connections inside, this model is known for having bad caps with bulging/leaking tops and they should be repalced in a set of new caps.

My viewsonic vx1940w monitor won't turn on. There's no lights or anything. The outlet it's plugged into is working because I tried another device in the same outlet. My settings didn't...

I had two ViewSonic's that did the same thing right around 2 year as well. They worked really well for me and then just died.
I found out the first one had a faulty power cord, and the second one just wouldn't turn on at all.
I think there's a good chance that your monitor bit the big one just based on my experience with the brand. I would recommend taking it in to your local computer repair shop and let them take a look at it. If it is 2 years old then it is probably out of the manufacturer's warranty unfortunately. I hope this helps answer your question :(
Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a ViewSonic vx1940w. How do you remove the back to get to the components? The back has no screws or visiable fastners.

There are only 2 screws under the stand plate.
You need to get a small screwdriver and run it around the back plate where it fits into the front surround. It will pop out.
There are several links to manuals if you google the monitor.

I had to replace four electrolytic caps to stop annoying lines scrolling up the screen.

I have a VX1940w and when I turn it on, the light is dim and it makes a buzzing noise then turns off after about 30s. How can I fix this?

Open it up and look inside for bad capacitors (bulging top/seal) in the power supply, post back what you see inside so we can guide you further, see example of failed Viewsonic monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Viewsonic VX1940w monitor comes on for a few seconds then turns off. Press the on/off button and then turn it on again, monitors only stays on for a few seconds then turns off.

vmesa, Do not feel alone! Your monitor's problem same as ten thousand other CCFL back-lit LCD monitors all over planet earth!!!! Yes, and I mean the exact same symptom as you have stated. Yes, it can be fixed, but you shouldn't look to software or drivers to do it. Read my and other monitor guru's FIXYA profiles to find out if you have what it takes to attempt DIY repair on your unit!!! Follow all links you find and visit YOUTUBE!!! After an hour or two of reading you will understand your monitor and what might be the real cause for it's Black or Blank n Black screen symptom and how to fix it. If your pocket is deep enough, then skip all the reading and use VX1940w for trade-in on new unit. 12fixlouie
Bye for now.
