Question about Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop
After pressing the power button on my dimension 3000 the CD ROM light just blinks about once a second and there is a clicking sound but nothing else happens. No video feed or anyhting else apparent. Just replaced the power supply with no change. What is the cause?
Troubleshoot the problem this way. If the clicking noise comes from the CDROM then disconnect the power and ribbon cable from the rear of the CDROM and attempt to boot your PC again. If you think there is a CDROM stuck in the drive (and due to settings that let CDs such as Windows install disks boot from the CD ROM), You can get the CD out with the PC off by getting a large paperclip, and after straigtrning out the wire, you will see a small hole in the front of the CDROM drive usually below the tray that comes out for you to put the CD in. Push the paperclip in firmly, and the tray will pop out, letting you get your CD out. Retry booting after the CD has been removed.
