What are the steps on how to reformat the acer aspire 5315-2698 laptop?

Step 1:

I'm not sure end result you're looking for but I can give you the process on how you can format or reformat your hard drive by. Keep in mind that formatting a drive will erase everything on it so back up everything before starting the process. I believe it will only allow you format or reformat a secondary drive.

Step 2:

Right click on my computer on xp or right click computer in the start button on vista and beyond then select manage

Step 3:

Go to disk management (it is under storage) and right click on the hard drive you want to format and select format

Step 4:

Follow the prompt and the drive will format or reformat. Most likely it will change to NTFS.

If acer gives you a cd wherein you can insert it and reformat back to original settings, please make sure you shut down the pc and then press repeatedly F12. Then select Boot to CD. Follow the prompts and select Format C: drive to begin reformatting it..

Well the first thing that you have to keep in mind before reformatting your hard drive is to ensure the backups of all driver devices on your laptop. Since you already reformatted, the best way is to look up the correct drivers for the Acer Aspire. I would start looking at the Acer site. Back up all necessary data to an external device such as a disk, flash driveor hard drive
Make sure all programs are closed and shut down your Acer laptop by openingyour Start menu and selecting "Shut Down" from the options for shuttingdown and restarting windows.
Detach any external hardware such as an external hard drive or printer.
Press the Power button to boot your Acer laptop.
Press "Alt + F10" on your keyboard when the Acer screen appears atthe start of the boot up process. Wait a moment while Windows loads the resetfiles.
Select "Restore System from factory default" in the Acer eRecoveryManagement window.
Click "Next" on the next screen to continue. Click"Next" on the following destination informationwindow. This will pop up a notice telling you that resetting your Acer laptopwill erase all data and restore the laptop to its original settings andconfiguration.
Click "OK" in the notice window to proceed with resetting yourAcer laptop.
Wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Most laptops ship with a 'recovery partition'.
When booting up, there will be an option on the screen at the bottom briefly, usually F8 or F10.
Pressing this when the prompt occurs allows you to reset your laptop to factory condition, with the OS and all drivers reinstalled.

The "Vista Boot Loop" is a known issue though, but does have a solution, see here

If you are unable to use the repair portion of those steps, there is another workaround, but requires the use of other bootable media, such as Ubuntu (which you can download for free here). From there, try following these steps to get the pending.xml file renamed (see Comment #12 specifically, when using Ubuntu)

If you can solve it using the latter method, then you can get back into the system without having to reformat the entire hard drive and starting over.

if you want to replace vista with XP you will need to reformat the laptop using your xp disk you can find step by step guides on doing this on the internet
