Is there a way to upgrade to a PIII 1GHz CPU with this Tecra 8100? After installing the 1 GHz CPU nothing happens when tried booting. Two green light on the left side lit and can hear HDD whirling. Screen showed Toshiba logo.
Put back 700 MHz CPU all system is go again. Do I need to flash a new BIOS? Thanks for any help.
My system:
Tecra 8100;
700MHz CPU;
Windows 98 SE
ACPI BIOS v. 2.50

Thanks for the warning about possible overheating problem.
Right now I have not been able to get the new 1GHz PIII working in my Tecra 8100.
According to Intel specs, the voltage, and the speed all should be compatible with the 700 MHZ PIII. Assuming the 1 MHz chip is OK, what are my options?

You pulled the processor out of your laptop ... that was a brave move ... generally laptop boards are fully integrated so there is very few options on changing the processor ... also because of the extreme heating conditions the heat sink bonding is very critical ... make sure you replace this properly or you will have overheating issues in the future ...
