put in new 3400 series cartridge, closed top, still saying cover open

  • Anonymous Jul 16, 2008

My printer tells me that my cover is open after i have changed the ink. The only problem is that everything is shut and ready to go, but it still wont print. Is there a trigger somewhere that I could activate by some other means? I have taken it apart and there doesn't appear to be any kind of trigger to confirm to the internals that the cover is closed. What must I do to fix this problem?

I changed the cartridge and now it's saying that the cover is open..but it isn't. Tried unplugging it for a while, checked everything, can't get it to stop saying that. Now I can not print because the "cover is open". HELP!

I have the exact same problem, the printer won't allow me to print anything because it keeps telling me that the cover is open, but it is not...It is really frustrating me. Can I fix it myself or do I have to take it to a repair shop?

LIKE OTHER POSTINGS, AFTER CHANGING THE INK CARTRIDGE, THE PRINTER NO LONGER WORKS. IT IS STUCK SAYING THAT THE COVER IS OPEN. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM, AND THESE PRINTERS ARE TOO EXPENSIVE FOR A COMMON BREAKDOWN TO BE OCCURRING. I KNOW THAT MANY COMPANIES DELIBERATELY SELL SHODDY EQUIPMENT SO THAT YOU WILL BE A REPEAT CUSTOMER SOONER (HP FOR EXAMPLE) BUT YOU GUYS ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE A BETTER REPUTATION THAN MOST.

My printer keeps telling me that i have a system error. Remover paper jam then press start but nothing happens. Help

Where does this "system error" message appear? On your printer display or on your computer screen? Try to remove the sheets of paper from the feeder. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges. Close the cover. Unplug and replug the printer into the power outlet to reset itself. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges. Then load some paper. Try to print again and see if the error appears again.

I GET A PLS OPEN COVER OFFLINE BUT NOTHING IS

I think the machine is telling you to look inside for a foreign object or scrap of paper:

1) Turn the machine OFF
2) Open the cover
3) Carefully inspect inside for a bit of torn paper, staple, paperclip or other such foreign object - gently clear any problem materials. Do not touch internal parts if possible. Use tweezers for small hard-to-grasp objects.
4) Close the cover, and power ON
5) If the MFC cannot reset itself, or if no foreign material is found, the machine should report an error code, for example "Machine Error XX"
6) From this code, brother support should be able to diagnose and help with your problem
