Monitor issue Display on monitor comes and goes. It can be moved up and down to make it light up again. I was told it might be a ribbon issue. Any help would be appreciated. david@davidpennington.net

It could be a few things causing this issue:

  1. Loose video cable to the motherboad
  2. Dying inverter
  3. Dying backlight
The easiest thing to test out is the video cable. Generally the cable plugs into the motherboard under the keyboard or under the panel just above the keyboard. Normally you need to remove several screws from the bottom and then carefully pop that panel off starting on one side. I'm looking for a break-down guide for your laptop.

well if your lcd has no bulge capacitors test your tft lamp both top & down of the screen( particularly top) with spare tft lamp. or use another screen to test it. secondly, test the c5607 transistors in the inverter section but if you know how to use spare tft lamp very well , you will easily detect between your screen & the inverter

Omoron is not woking properly

Same problem on my Omron HEM-711. Manufactured in 2003, past the 5-yr warranty. Cust Suppt told me to replace unit. I opened the unit up and looked inside. Two very tight phillips screws, one on back panel, other in battery compartment. Case pries apart. LCD display looked intact, ribbon was undamaged. Unit appeared to work properly, just did not display correct reading, some of the liquid crystals in a few of the digits were not activating. I installed batteries with case still open, turned power on while pressing ribbon along edge of circuit board. Ribbon is manufactured with glue to circuit board, some of the leads come loose after several years due to manufacturing defect. In my case, pressing towards the bottom side corrected problem. You can see when it's working properly because all the display crystals light up simultaneously when unit is first powered up. I clamped down ribbon with two small paper clips insulated with a few bits of paper, works fine now, saved eighty bucks.

Monitor flickers, similar to a fluorescent light bulb that is going out. Also, there is one line on the left side of the screen, going up and down, that changes color, but it comes and goes. I thought...

The problem is in the monitor screen, there is a large circuit board connected behind the main display screen. The video signal is feed to the main board and generates the proper color balance, the second problem is the lamp behind the display is flickering and breaking down. To repair this will not be cost effective, cheaper to replace the monitor. But I would suggest hooking a spare monitor to the computer to make sure there are no additional issues.

Display has become intermitent caused by movement of the hinge area.

This is most likely the ribbon cable that runs from the motherboard to the LCD panel. The wires for this usually run underneath the hinge. You might try very carefully removing the power button bezel and see if the cable has come partially unplugged from the motherboard. If not, try moving the wires at the hinge area and see if you can confirm that it is a wire. If it is then replace the ribbon cable that goes from the motherboard to the LCD. This may be a wrapped cable as opposed to a ribbon cable but either way if it is bad, it will need to be replaced.

22" Apple Cinema Display doesn't power on

This may be an issue with the display detecting the wrong video format or is using an unsupported resolution for this Apple Cinema Display 22"

Procedure:
• Make sure your Mac is turned off.

• Once your Mac is shutdown, you will need to perform what is called a PRAM reset (Parameter RAM)

• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously .

• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the start up sound for the third time.

• Release the keys and allow the Mac to start up.

If that does not help here is additional support reference from Apple regarding its LCD displays:

Let me know if this helps!

The display screen goes off when the laptop is moved

Sounds like the ribbon which runs between the screen and base is being nipped or is not making a good connection. This is a common problem. If that is the problem you may find that by adjusting the screen you can actually get the picture to show again which will confirm but obviously it will continue to happen.

Most laptops have a narrow panel above the F keys which snaps off and reveals the ribbon underneath. Check the connection is pushed in tight and also that the ribbon isn't being nipped, reposition to stop this happening. If it's been damaged then obviously you will have to replace it.

Screen goes blank after 2 seconds

Do you have the video set to a range that this display cannot handle? Try rebooting into Safe Mode and set the resolution down to 800x600 or 1024x768 and see if it that will get you back. If so, then look up the specs of the display and set it no higher than it's max.

If it physicaly powers OFF, then you probably have a power issue.
