You have a possibility of two problems;
First:You need to check the pilot, when you areholding the pilot knob in, is the pilot flame covering the top of the thermocouple-the metal rod that is near the pilot, it will have a copper tube or maybe 2 wires, running back to the main gas valve. If the flame is covering the top 1/8" of the rod, it is ok. (For Now)
If the above checks out ok, now we move to the "Tip Sensor", this sensor is usually bebind the screen near the pilot knob. It has two wires running to it, the sensor is about the size of a dallor coin, inside this sensor is a metal ball, that makes contact with the two contacts inside the sensor, while the heater is standing upright, if the heater tips over, the ball moves and breaks the contacts in the sensor, shutting off the heater. This is a safety switch in case the heater tips over, sometimes the contacts in the sensor get dirty, try tapping the switch, basicly getting the ball to move around, then try it.
The final step - "Trouble Shooting purpose only", take the two wires coming to the sensor, cut them about 2" away from the sensor, and twist them together, then try it, if it works, the sensor is bad, take the sensor out, and shake it for awhile, then put it back in, rewire it to original wiring, if it still doesn't work, you will have to replace the sensor, contact the manufacture.
Please rate me, if this has been helpful, it keeps us keep on trying to help, LOL.
Contact me back if you have anymore questions.
Sincerely,
Paul Gibson

Fist thing if its brand new, you would probably have to bleed the lines which means letting the air out. Takin the gas line off the unit an turning the gas on for a few seconds the start back the installation.if that isnt the problem the you would have to locate the thermocouple .that is usually right beside the pilot assembly,a short rod shape object needs to be replaced or tke a piece of sand paper an clean it off ,that should do ther trick

My pilot light wont light and my heater will not stay on.The ignitor is cliking as if it works but will not ignite and if I manually light it the lighter will not stay on.

Essentially all gas devices regardless of which gas used, are equipped with a thermocouple that monitors the pilot light's condition and if it fails, it will not permit the main flame to light or the pilot light to stay lit. In your case, it may be that the TC failure also prevents the lighting of the pilot light.

If the pilot is staying lit while you hold it but not after you let go, this is a bad thermocouple. Replace thermocouple.

When the pilot flame is tall and yellow it normally means there is a partial blockage in the pilot tube or pilot jet orifice. Try cleaning out the pilot tube and orifice.

Do not know how to start pilot light

There should be instructions on the inside of the heater access door. Make sure you are comfortable working with gas heaters. Make sure the shutoff valve supplying gas to the heater is on. Turn the gas valve to "pilot", press and hold it while attempting to light the pilot. Once the pilot is lit, continue holding the gas valve knob down for about 30 seconds. The pilot should stay lit once you release the knob. If the pilot stay lit, turn the gas valve to "on". Replace the heater access door and make sure you have proper water flow and attempt to light the heater. If it will not light, or the pilot will not stay on, you will probably have to replace the pilot generator. It provides voltage to run the heater and after time it wears out and produces less and less voltage. A millivolt heater runs on less than one volt so any power loss can be a problem. If you are able, test the pilot generator with a multimeter to see if you are getting at least 500mv when the pilot is on. If not, you should replace the pilot generator or even the entire pilot assembly. Hope this helps...

Kirkland outdoor heater will not stay lit

The thermocouple is bad. That is the part right next to the pilot light that sense's the flame and hold the gas valve open to the pilot. Take the old thermocouple off and go to hard ware store and get a 18" one of what ever length you need and replace. 5 dollar part.

Patio Heater pilot lights won't stay lit

crappy pilot flame (not properly heating the thermocouple), bad thermocouple, thermocouple loose where it screws into the pilot safety valve, bad safety valve magnet.

One or more of those is the problem.

Oh...there is also a saftey switch...in case it tips over. It will also cause the pilot to not stay lit (if the switch or wires that go to i are faulty)
