How do I replace ignitor switch in thermos gas grill, if this is what is what I saw?

If that white is ceramic, I think it is the actual ignitor, not the switch.

The ignmition switch stays down when I push it and does not pop back up. bhalupnik@msn.com

the switch spring will go out often in the push button types. it is two wires you will have to disconnect and reconnect when you buy a new one like such --> ( http://www.csgrills.com/Common/Product/CatProduct.aspx?ID=186243&Src=GoogleBase&SrcID=2248467 )

The electronic ignition on my grill no longer sparks to ignite the gas. I replaced the battery and cleaned the contact points but there was not any improvement. Can the entire assembly be replaced?

Yes you can replace the entire assembly.
However you can try adjusting the spark gap to see if this will resolve the issue.
Heat will often expand the spark gap thus rendering a spark impossible.
Small adjustments and be careful not to break the ceramic insulator.

Many gas grills use a static ignitor that does not require a battery.
Big red button you push that causes a snapping noise. This makes a spark and lights the gas. These can last quite a long time and inexpensive too.

Good luck!

Replacing ignitor battery

Has it got a battery or has it got a Pitzo crystal? They eventually wear out, you may need to replace the ignitor button unit.

When I try to light my jenn air gas cook top it clicks but will not light. But it will light with a match

Your electronic ignitor is bad. You can buy a replacement ignitor where you bought your grill. Just about any hardware store will have a replacement ignitor. They are real easy to replace. There is 1 wire to the back of the ignitor. There is a retaining nut on the switch. Remove the switch and replace with new switch. Plug wire into ignitor, Turn gas on and test ignitor.

We bought our grill last summer and it worked fine. When we got it out of the garage this summer and replaced the gas, it wouldn't start. We can smell the gas so we know it is reaching the burners.

this sounds like an ignitor problem to me. You could replace the ignitor or you could light with a match. Most of these grills have an access point usually on the right side to light the burners with a match just make sure you light the match first and hold it into the access point before you turn the gas on.

Gas grill ignitors

Check the electrode.  That is the end at the burner.  It may be corroded and no longer creating a spark.
