Question about Kitchen Ranges

My GE Profile dishwasher does not drain all the way. It's about 10 years old. Is there something I can do to fix it or should I buy a new one? What is the best dishwasher in the 450.00 to 750.00 range in your opinion?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Dishwasher not draining properly or not draining at all issues can arise due to different reasons. Usually, these issues are related to kinked hoses, knocked out disposer unit (if connected with the dishwasher drain hose) & clogged drain pump & filter. Also note that dishwashers do not drain completely after a finished cycle and this is normal. Dishwashers are designed to leave some water in the unit to ensure that the heating element doesn’t overheat. If you suddenly begin to experience a large amount of water being retained in your dishwasher, you have a problem. Some of the most common reasons include that the drain hose isn’t working properly, the drain pump isn’t working correctly, or possibly there is a plumbing problem in your home’s drain lines. First check whether the drain is not clogged or blocked and the line is not kinked. Check all the hoses for blockages & also clean the air gap. If you have checked the drain hose and can’t locate the problem, then it is an issue with the drain pump of the dishwasher. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

I've checked the drain hose and everything appears to be fine. I understand that some water should remain in the bottom of the dishwasher but should it be dirty water (cloudy). Also, our plastic tumblers don't dry properly. Can you recommend a good dishwasher? We have about had it with this one.

OK, I'll recommend a whirlpool dishwasher or may be a Fisher & Paykel however, they are more expensive then the whirlpool dishwashers. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

    Thanks

I think you missed out on the reply, you can get a new Whirlpool Dishwasher in around $500-$750. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

    Thanks

If you want to fix it yourself then as I said you can buy a new drain pump for it to work again.

My GE profile dishwasher is not draining, is it fixable?

Yes, it is fixable. I would fix check to make sure the float on the inside of the unit is not stuck (not a probable, but easily checked). Then I would pull the unit out and check the pump. If something is clogging the pump intake then it wouldn't drain. If there isn't something blocking the pump intake, then it is probably the pump itself.

The GE Profile Dishwasher does not drain completely. The bottom drain shows no obvious clog and the screens are clear. The overflow drain in the back of the washers the only reason the dishwasher does not...

Uncouple the drain hose connection under the sink and use a wet/dry vacuum to **** out the drain hose and the stub on the sink drain plumbing to clear any possible clogs. There may be a blocked check valve near the pump that might have to be cleaned or replaced. Check the hose itself for any kinks or collapsed section. There might be a damaged drain impeller on the pump. Hope this helps!

The pump on my GE Profile dishwasher is not draining.

If it is the last cycle only it is not the pump. It is a wiring or timer issue. Most likely the timer.

My GE Profile Dishwasher circa mid 1990s will not completely drain. I took the drain cage off and found pieces of broken glass and old food remnants in it. I used a shop vac to **** it all out....

Sounds like there is. It is common to find objects or small pieces of cloth stuck in the water pump. Remove the water pump and disassemble it and reinstall it. Or purchase a new water pump and replace the old pump.

My GE Profile doesn"t drain completly, leaving about 2" of water.

Sounds like a water level sensor is on the fritz. The drain valve is probably opening if the level drops at all.

GE Profile Performance Dishwasher soap dispenser doesn't open

most likely the solenoid that releases the door open or the spring that pops the door if defective.  It may even be a bad timer.
Check your yellow pages for parts and prices.  It may not be worth it to fix a 10-year old dishwasher.
Why don't you just lay the tablet inside and close the door.
