Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hello, I have two insignia 42", set one I'm returning to normal using the parts from the second set. The second set fryed its board the ccfl's were conected to and knocked out the primary inverter board. The the first set will light up for one second then go out. I'm thinking inverter board problems. I changed the p/s, main tv and slave inverter boards and checked the voltages and all ok. I don't know why the inverter has to be so complicated but it seems there is no contrtol to or from the inverters other than on/off. What do you think about using high output leds in the second set?

My 50 insignia has horizontal blinking on bottom part of screen

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. A bad CCFL lamp too can cause this fault.
Some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement.

42" INSIGNIA/PRIMA We lost the picture and then 20 min later lost the audio. Changed the main power board, got the power light back but still no audio or video. Any ideas?

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience.

Electronic tech needs help this tv only half of picture is showing what could be the problem i wants to fix it myself

Hello Danyell,
According to the model number you provided you have a 42" Insignia plasma TV. The problem you reported with having just a blank black screen on the lower half is due to a bad lower buffer board or also called a lower scan board. The part number is LJ92-01739C and if you Google this part number you can find these online and also find some sites that may show a short video on how to replace it. Price of this board looks to be about $35. Also of note is you will find that this part number is a Samsung part number which means your Insignia TV has a Samsung plasma panel in it so the associated circuit boards will also be Samsung parts.

Partial blacking / shadowing of the screen

Sounds like the backlight inverter board is going out, or possible backlight ccfl going bad. The inverter board can be replaced but the actual ccfl's may not be able to, depends on the repair shop's in your area.

Insignia tv will not turn on, {power up}

That is usually a faulty power adapter.

Sometimes a faulty inverter board can do the same, but in that case you often get sound with no picture for a while before the the inverter comes up.

In your case it is probably a blown capacitor on power supply board.

I just repaired the TV.. It's the main power board that's causing the problem.The biggest board in the TV. I took a metre to the old board and it's failing on the VS circuit. I was only getting 14volts when i should of been getting 78 volts or something like that. If you look on aluminum backing of the screen .. top right corner there's a sticker which tells you what the voltages should be for the VS and a few others. It's the 10 pin socket top left corner on the main power board. VS is the first 2 pins. That's the part of the cuit that caused the screen not to light up. I had audio and power but no picture. All the other readings I took were normal on the board that was failing. Only the VS reading failed with the 14 volt reading. I put in another a good used main power board and took a reading from the VS pins and it was normal. I connect the cable to the y board and the TV powered up and is displays fine. If there's someone who does work on low level cuits and finds the actual part that is failing I would like to know. I replaced my board with a known good one and traced it too which part of the cuit failed. I suspect it's just buying time and don't plan on spending another $100.00 on another board after this one. So any help would be great. Thanks for all Craig
